The workshop "Developing smart Drone/UAV ecosystem ineducation and industry" in Ho Chi Minh City on May 16 raised the issue in the context of drones becoming a core technology, affecting many aspects of life today.
Need to create a unique identity
According to Associate Professor Dr. Le Quoc Cuong, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park, the drone industry is growing strongly.
Drones/UAVs are not only technical tools but are gradually becoming strategic platforms, opening up new spaces for STEM education, defense, precision agriculture , logistics and smart cities.
"Not only keeping up but also creating our own identity, mastering technology, and leading the market in advantageous segments," Mr. Cuong stated his goal.
The “key” to making this happen is to develop a comprehensive ecosystem, with education and training at the center.
There needs to be a close connection between the State, schools, businesses and the innovation community.
Mr. Cuong said he is ready to turn Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park into the leading center for testing, innovating and commercializing Drone/UAV technology in Southeast Asia.

Comprehensive training course on drone technology
Major Pham Cong Nguyen, military assistant (Phu Nhuan District Military Command, Ho Chi Minh City Command), pointed out the difficulties and limitations of this industry in Vietnam such as the lack of schools, centers, programs or textbooks to introduce, access and train users.
Mainly self-study through the internet, spontaneous group activities and no government management.
"People who come into contact with FPV drones do not have a clear orientation, are not aware of the legality, safety assurance and legal regulations in drone operation," Major Nguyen emphasized.
Many comments have been made, stating that drones are becoming a core technology, affecting every corner of every issue - Photo: CT
Master Bui Quoc Anh, Director of the Data Center (Ho Chi Minh City National University), believes that in order to keep up with and even master this new industry, organizing a smart education and training system in the field of drones/UAVs is extremely necessary and completely feasible.
"We lack human resource development, an important piece like having planes but lacking pilots," Mr. Quoc Anh likened.
According to Mr. Quoc Anh, the drone training program must be comprehensive, ensuring knowledge (structure, principles, applications), skills (operation, maintenance - preservation, programming), practice (application simulation), digital learning materials and personalized learning with AI.
There are currently many technology platforms that support this, especially infrastructure with competition nets, simulated flight training grounds, tools, teaching aids, and information support equipment.
Another opinion says that the teaching method of this subject must also be innovated, following a combined teaching and learning model, and teachers need to meet international standards.
