“With the strong development of information technology and having smartphones in hand, many young officers and officers in the unit almost only read e-books and information online and are gradually afraid to go to the library. Recently, after directly participating in activities to exchange and spread books and reading culture, participating in book and newspaper introductions and reviews organized by the unit, many of my teammates and I have changed our habits, regularly going to the library, collecting many books, newspapers and magazines to enrich the bookshelf of our unit.”
It is known that in recent times, agencies and units of Regiment 5 in particular and Division 5 in general have effectively promoted cultural institutions; the company level has a law bookcase, the battalion level has a Ho Chi Minh room, the regiment level has a library located in the military club. Each agency and unit, according to the hierarchy and based on the work schedule, has proactively developed a daily and weekly reading plan into a routine. In particular, political officers of the units have proactively researched and grasped the thoughts, feelings, interests, and reading strengths of soldiers to establish groups and clubs in the unit to promote and exchange books; organize book discovery contests, book quizzes, and cultural reading ambassadors, creating a widespread effect.
Book Day and Reading Culture Activities at Regiment 5 (Division 5, Military Region 7). |
Officers and soldiers of Battalion 5, Regiment 5 read books and newspapers on their day off. |
Going to the training ground, we saw many exciting activities taking place during breaks. Some units organized military games for soldiers, some organized cultural and artistic activities, some organized soldiers to read newspapers and magazines. Private Pham Van Hoang, a soldier of Company 9, Battalion 3, Regiment 4, shared: “Every day, when going to training, each platoon brings a box of training ground newspapers so that during breaks, we can read them. The box of newspapers has helped me and my teammates gain more useful knowledge to serve the learning and working process. In particular, many timely updates have helped us have more determination to overcome all difficulties, actively train, practice and strive to complete all assigned tasks well.”
Talking with Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Ngoc, Deputy Political Commissar of Regiment 5, we learned that through reading books, newspapers and magazines, young officers and soldiers have access to more useful knowledge, and at the same time, helped young soldiers improve and practice speaking and writing skills. Thanks to that, at competitions in agencies and units in the Division, many reporters and propagandists with deep knowledge, eloquence, and an inspiring and attractive voice have appeared. That further affirms the importance of books and newspapers in the military environment, especially for young officers and soldiers, who really need positive energy from useful books and articles to live with more ideals and responsibilities towards the Fatherland.
