After heavy rains lasting from late July to early August 2025 caused serious damage in Dien Bien province: 10 people died, 14 people were injured, more than 1,400 houses were damaged and hundreds of hectares of rice and crops were washed away, with total estimated damage of about 1,356 billion VND. The Provincial Red Cross in coordination with WVI has implemented the project "Emergency relief for communities damaged by heavy rains on August 1, 2025". The project was implemented in 6 severely affected communes including: Xa Dung, Muong Luan, Tia Dinh, Na Son, Phinh Giang and Pu Nhi, with a total budget of 120 thousand USD sponsored by WVI. Through the project, 490 households received multi-purpose cash support, 60 households and many schools were provided with essential supplies. A total of 5,574 people, including more than 3,500 children, have benefited. Along with emergency assistance, communication activities on child safety, proper use of aid funds, clean water and sanitation, and disaster prevention were also included in the distribution sessions.
As of mid-October, the project had disbursed 96% of the plan, contributing to helping people quickly stabilize their lives, restore production and confidently overcome difficulties after floods.
At the conference, delegates focused on discussing issues related to support work and the use of support resources such as: People's satisfaction level is different between households with many people and households with few people; households with many people spend all of their money on food needs, households with few people can use the support money for other purposes; most households use the support money for two or more purposes.
