On the morning of September 12, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a Summary of the implementation of the Project "Developing sow herds using artificial insemination to serve the task of pig herd restoration in Ha Nam province in the period of 2020 - 2022". Attending were representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, leaders of districts, cities, towns and livestock households participating in the project.

Implementing the project, a total of 1,300 gilts and 6 boars were supported for breeding households. Of which, in 2021, 900 gilts and 6 boars were supported; in 2022, 400 gilts were supported. Each breeding household was supported with 10 gilts and 1 boar. In 2022 alone, each participating household was given an additional 2-3 sows by the breeding enterprise. The support level was 32.5 million VND/boar and an average of 4 million VND/gilt.

Through evaluation, the sow and boar herds supported under the project are maintained and developed quite well. The supported boar herd has 5/6 pigs (1 pig was culled) and is developing well, maintaining semen exploitation frequency of 2-3 times/week, reaching 10-12 doses of semen/exploitation.
With the herd of gilts supported in 2021 to date, 4-5 litters have been exploited, reaching an average number of newborns of 12-13 piglets/litter, the average number of weaned piglets is 10.8 piglets/litter, higher than the herd of sows in the community.
However, the 2021 sow herd was affected by the African swine fever outbreak at the end of 2021 and was culled during the breeding process, currently maintaining 535 pigs, reaching a rate of 59.4%. The 2022 sow herd has been exploited for 2-3 litters, the number of newborn pigs is 13-14 pigs/litter, the average number of weaned pigs is 11 pigs/litter. The 2022 sow herd is maintaining exploitation of 308 pigs, reaching a rate of 77%. Economic efficiency, profit calculated for 1 male pig in 1 year is 29 million VND, sow 19.5 million VND/pig,
The project has contributed to accelerating the work of repopulating the pig herd in the province in the direction of ensuring the quality of parent pigs. The total number of male pigs in the province is currently nearly 1,000, of which 5 are supported under the project; 28,000 sows, of which the number of sows under the project is maintained at 843, accounting for 3% of the total herd.
