Mr. Donald Trump made this statement on NBC News' "Meet the Press with Kristen Welker" on December 8.

The president-elect said that on his first day in office, he will sign an executive order to end birthright citizenship, which currently allows anyone born in the United States to be recognized as a citizen, regardless of whether their parents immigrated legally.

Mr. Trump won reelection on a promise of massive deportations. He plans to declare a national emergency over illegal immigration shortly after taking office on January 20, mobilizing the full resources of the federal government to launch a wide-ranging crackdown.

The US Department of Homeland Security estimates there are about 11 million illegal immigrants in the US as of January 2022, although the actual number may be higher.

In an interview with NBC News , when asked if the plan was to deport all those without legal status, Mr. Trump affirmed that it would be a very difficult process, but it must be according to regulations and the law.

In addition, Mr. Trump also wants to reach an agreement to protect the "Dreamer" group - illegal immigrants brought to the US since they were children, and affirmed that the Republican Party is ready to discuss this proposal.

During his 2017-2021 presidency, Trump ended a program that allowed these immigrants to receive deferred deportation and work permits, but the Supreme Court overturned his plan. The president-elect’s plan to end birthright citizenship is likely to face legal challenges.

The American Immigration Council estimates that deporting all illegal immigrants in the United States over a decade would cost about $88 billion a year.
