TASS news agency reported that Mr. Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social : "If the hostages are not released before January 20, 2025, the day I proudly take office as President of the United States, the Middle East and those responsible for these atrocities against humanity will pay a heavy price."
According to the 47th owner of the White House, those responsible "will suffer consequences more severe than anyone in the long and glorious history of America".
He also expressed regret that, after all the discussions on the issue of hostages being held "violently, inhumanely and against the will of the whole world " in the Gaza Strip, no action was taken.
Previously, US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told the Axios news portal that Mr. Trump wanted to resolve the conflict in Palestine before he took office.
Meanwhile, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said he could not guarantee a ceasefire in Gaza and a hostage release deal would be reached under the current administration.
According to Israeli figures, Hamas captured more than 250 people, including dual Israeli-American nationals, in its October 7, 2023 attack on the country. About half of the 101 foreign and Israeli hostages held in isolation in Gaza are believed to be still alive.
On December 2, Hamas revealed that 33 hostages in Gaza had died in the nearly 14-month war between the Palestinian militant group and Israel in this land, but did not specify their nationalities.
Regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, on the same day, Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdelatty and United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed chaired an international ministerial conference in Cairo to increase humanitarian relief for people in this Mediterranean coastal strip.
The event was attended by Foreign Ministers from 17 countries and senior representatives of UN agencies, including the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Mr Abdelatty called on countries to make viable financial commitments to aid the Gaza Strip, warning that immediate relief was vital to prevent a worsening humanitarian disaster in the besieged Palestinian enclave.
At the conference, the Egyptian Foreign Minister said Cairo is ready to facilitate large aid convoys into the Gaza Strip, provided that the situation on the ground ensures the safe delivery of supplies and that aid workers are protected.
“What is needed now and immediately is to take a decisive stance to implement the UN resolutions and the judgments of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) calling for an immediate ceasefire,” he declared.
