US President Donald Trump orders reopening of the infamous Alcatraz prison

On May 4, US President Donald Trump announced that he was ordering the construction and reopening of the infamous Alcatraz prison in San Francisco Bay to hold America's most dangerous criminals.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump said he was directing the Bureau of Prisons, the Department of Justice , the FBI, and the Department of Homeland Security to work together to reopen Alcatraz prison on a larger scale and to significantly rebuild it.

In the past, Alcatraz was considered the most secure prison in the United States thanks to its island location, cold sea water and strong currents.

There have been no recorded successful prison breaks from Alcatraz, which once held America's most notorious criminals, such as mafia boss Al Capone.

In 1963, the prison was closed due to the high operating costs, which were three times higher than other federal prisons, due to Alcatra being on an island. The prison is now one of San Francisco's most popular tourist attractions./.
