On August 11, Reuters quoted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as saying that he had decided to dismiss all officials leading military recruitment agencies in the country. This announcement was made after the Ukrainian military recruitment agency faced unprecedented corruption allegations.
According to the leader, an investigation into military recruitment agencies showed signs of abuse of power, illegal enrichment and sending eligible recruits across the border despite wartime bans.

“This system should be run by people who know exactly what war is and why corruption in war is treason,” Mr. Zelensky stressed.
According to the announcement, General Valery Zaluzhny, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, will be responsible for implementing this decision.
The move comes after Mr Zelensky on August 3 denounced what he described as "rebellious" actions after inspecting Ukraine's local military recruitment agencies.
Also according to Reuters , at that time Mr. Zelensky expressed outrage at the corruption exposed when military recruitment agencies were audited.
On August 5, Ukrainian President Zelensky pledged that the country would have a new "institutional cleansing".
"Next week, we will continue the work of cleansing state institutions of those who have tried to cling to the past all the old habits, the old plans that have weakened Ukraine for a very long time, for decades," President Zelensky affirmed.
The investigation into military recruitment offices is part of a long-running campaign by the Zelensky administration to root out corruption, an issue that is important as Ukraine pushes to join NATO and the European Union.
Ukraine's military is facing recruitment challenges as the conflict with Russia drags on for nearly 18 months.
