Rumors of a new hybrid version of the Toyota Vios have been circulating in the Southeast Asian auto industry for the past few years. Now, information about the launch date of this model has been revealed by the Thai press. Accordingly, Toyota Vios Hybrid will officially launch in the Thai market in August 2025. This model is expected to use a new hybrid powertrain with a 4-cylinder, 1.5L gasoline engine. Most likely, the Toyota Vios Hybrid engine will be shared with its brother Yaris Cross.
This is not surprising because these two models share the same chassis. The Toyota Vios Hybrid's engine is expected to have some minor adjustments compared to the Yaris Cross. The car's 1.5L gasoline engine will produce a maximum capacity of 91 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 121 Nm at 4,000 - 4,800 rpm. The gasoline engine combined with the electric motor produces a maximum capacity of 80 horsepower and a maximum torque of 141 Nm. The total capacity of the hybrid engine system of this B-class sedan is 111 horsepower. In addition, the car is also equipped with an e-CVT automatic transmission, front-wheel drive and a 0.7 kWh lithium-ion battery. The hybrid powertrain mentioned above allows the car to reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Meanwhile, the average fuel consumption of the Toyota Vios Hybrid is rumored to be only 26.3 km/liter (about 3.8 liters/100 km).
In addition to the new fuel-efficient engine, the Toyota Vios Hybrid promises to have full amenities and safety. It will not be surprising if the car has notable features such as an infotainment screen supporting Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 64-color interior lighting. Electronic parking brake (EPB) with Auto Hold function, automatic air conditioning system with rear seat vents, Smart Keyless Entry and push-button start. In addition, there are safety features such as VSC vehicle stability control system, TRC traction control system, HAC hill start assist, BSM blind spot warning, RCTA rear cross traffic alert, AHB automatic headlights and 360-degree panoramic camera. The Toyota Safety Sense active safety technology package will also be equipped for the car, including the Pre-Collision System automatic warning and braking system, lane departure warning with steering assist, warning when the vehicle in front starts, accelerator pedal misapplication prevention system, adaptive cruise control system at all speed ranges.
The current generation Toyota Vios was officially launched in the Thai market in 2022 with its own name, Yaris Ativ. With a completely new design and equipment, this model has created a sales fever in Thailand with sales of 3,000 - 5,000 units per month. In addition, the car also reached 21,300 orders after only 1 month of launching in the Land of Golden Pagodas. Unfortunately, Toyota Vios in Vietnam has not been supplemented with a new generation similar to other Southeast Asian markets.
