Can Tho City is about to have its first solar power plant project.

City PCt — Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Vuong Quoc Nam highly appreciated the proposal of Sao Mai Group on the investment policy of the solar power plant project in the city.

On November 3, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Vuong Quoc Nam and other departments and branches had a working session with leaders of Sao Mai Group on the implementation of Sao Mai 1 Solar Power Plant project (Project) in the city.

Accordingly, the Project is implemented in Xa Phien commune, Can Tho city (Thuan Hoa commune, Long My district, old Hau Giang province), with a designed capacity of 50 MW, combined with a 5 MW capacity storage system.

The project will be implemented in the 2025-2030 period, with an area of about 53 hectares and a total investment capital of about 1,000 billion VND. When completed, the project will provide 82,370 MWh/year.

Sao Mai Group Deputy General Director Le Nguyen Hoang Anh Duy spoke at the working session with city leaders.

Sao Mai Group Deputy General Director Le Nguyen Hoang Anh Duy said that recently, the Group has successfully invested in two solar power plant projects in Tinh Bien district (former An Giang province, capacity of 210 MWp) and Duc Hue district (former Long An province, capacity of 50 MWp). With the Group's experience and strengths in the field of solar power, Sao Mai Group hopes that the city will create favorable conditions for the unit to soon implement the project investment, contributing to providing green energy for the city as well as the national power grid.

At the meeting, leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City informed that the project location is consistent with local planning and industry planning. However, there are still problems with land use targets for project implementation.

However, the city will study and resolve these difficulties according to the Resolutions on implementing special projects of the Central Government in the coming time.

The proposed land location to be used to implement the Solar Power Plant project in Xa Phien commune has a scale of 53 hectares.

The leader of Xa Phien Commune People's Committee said that the proposed project location is a low-lying, acid sulfate land area, where people grow rice twice a year, but the economic life is not highly developed. Local people and leaders hope that Can Tho City People's Committee will create favorable conditions for the investor to soon implement the project, on the one hand, it will develop the economy of this land, on the other hand, people will no longer feel frustrated when living in a land area with prolonged planning.

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Vuong Quoc Nam highly appreciated the proposal to invest in a solar power plant project in the city. If the project is implemented, it will provide a green power source that businesses investing in the city are interested in.

The land planned for the solar power project is a low-lying, flooded and acidic area of the old Hau Giang province.

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City requested relevant departments and agencies to urgently review the solar power project plans and integrate the projects into the city's general planning after the merger of Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces into Can Tho City. The Department of Agriculture and Environment and the People's Committee of Xa Phien commune continue to coordinate with investors to specifically review the land area to be used; avoid existing residential clusters; and include the proposed project implementation area in the annual land use plan of the locality and the city.

As for the investor, the Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee also requested to review and re-evaluate the effectiveness of the project, environmental impact and have a plan with the locality to create stable livelihoods and jobs for people whose land is affected by the project. So that when Sao Mai Group implements the project, it will receive high consensus from the people, contributing to the economic and social development of the city.

Sao Mai Linh Group has strengths in the fields of renewable energy investment; seafood processing for export; resort tourism; real estate. The Group currently owns 12 member companies with more than 12,000 employees. Revenue in 2024 is about 12,021 billion VND, profit after tax reaches more than 250 billion VND.
