Ho Chi Minh City spends more than 1,000 billion VND to take care of people during Tet

The city will give cash and Tet gifts to people with meritorious services, social protection, and disadvantaged workers with a budget of more than 915 billion VND and funds from organizations.

The information was given by Ms. Huynh Le Nhu Trang, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, at the regular economic and social press conference on the afternoon of January 4.

Accordingly, on the occasion of the 2024 Lunar New Year, the budget for taking care of people from the city budget increased by 34 billion VND compared to last year. With this source, the city will give more than 475,400 gifts to meritorious people, social protection groups, people in difficult circumstances... in the area. The support level for each case is 1.3-3.1 million VND.

The city also gave Tet gifts worth 1.8 million VND each to more than 135,300 officials, civil servants and workers working in the area.

In addition to the budget, trade unions at all levels also spent more than 130 billion VND to organize Tet care activities for workers in difficulty. Priority groups are workers who have lost their jobs, have fewer working hours, or have reduced wages... Forms of care include giving cash, Tet gifts, giving bus tickets...

The Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union also mobilized more than 15 billion VND to give more than 22,000 gifts to the needy; and gave more than 3,700 train and bus tickets to students and young workers to return to their hometowns.

During Tet, mass organizations organize many cultural, artistic and entertainment activities for workers who cannot return to their hometowns. The City Youth Union connects and introduces about 10,000 Tet jobs for those in need.
