Ho Chi Minh City opens exhibition and films about Southern Liberation Day

(PLVN) - The opening ceremony of the exhibition "Echoes of the Great Victory of Spring 1975 in Cinema" and free film screening on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification took place on the evening of April 26, in Ho Chi Minh City.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition "Echoes of the Great Victory of Spring 1975 in Cinema" and free film screening on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) took place on Nguyen Hue walking street (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).

Many directors, producers and actors also participated in the program such as Meritorious Artist Manh Dung, Meritorious Artist Thanh Dau, actors Tien Luat, Thu Trang, director Phan Gia Nhat Linh, director Tran Thanh Huy...

Speaking at the event, People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City said that Ho Chi Minh City will create favorable and attractive spaces for the program to take place successfully.

“The program is a bridge between the past and the present, helping people have more motivation, emotions and look towards the future of Vietnam rising with strong aspirations. Hopefully in the near future, Vietnamese cinema works on the theme of revolutionary war will continue to inspire filmmakers, with more good, meaningful works reaching out to the world ,” said Ms. Thuy.

The exhibition “Echoes of the Great Victory of Spring 1975 in Cinema” includes two contents: “Cinema with historical moments” and “Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City through the perspective of cinema”. The exhibition displays more than 300 photos, photo collections stored at the Vietnam Film Institute as well as photos collected from related film production units and film studios; promising to attract a large number of people and tourists to visit, enjoy and learn about the history of the Vietnamese nation through the perspective of cinema.

Within the framework of Vietnam Film Week, towards the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City also coordinated with the Vietnam Film Institute to organize a public film screening program at Nguyen Hue Walking Street.

The film screening will take place on the evening of April 27, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the film “Wild Field” by director Nguyen Hong Sen, made in 1979. On the evening of April 28, the audience will have the opportunity to interact with the film crew of “Tunnels: Sun in the Dark” by director Bui Thac Chuyen and enjoy the documentary “City at Dawn” in the same time slot.

In particular, the documentary “Victory Vietnam” by Swedish director Bo Öhlén will also be introduced on this occasion. The film records the vibrant atmosphere in Stockholm on the day Saigon was liberated, demonstrating the deep solidarity of the Swedish people with Vietnam.
