On May 29, Mr. Tran Quang Lam, acting director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, signed a decision approving the project to expand the road connecting the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2 (Thu Duc City).

Accordingly, the project has a total length of 3.2km with a total investment of more than 915 billion VND, invested from the city budget. In terms of scale, the project will expand both sides of the route with each side being 4.75m wide, ensuring a scale of 8 lanes, the total width of the road after expansion is 36m. The bridge section will expand both sides of Muong Kenh bridge and Do Xuan Hop overpass by 5.25m each, the total width of the bridge after expansion is 37m.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway expansion project, along with other ongoing traffic projects, will form a complete traffic network in the region. Thereby, maximizing the effectiveness of the project connecting the Southeast region, connecting Long Thanh International Airport and expressways, national highways, and beltways, helping to relieve traffic congestion.

Regarding implementation, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance is responsible for coordinating with relevant agencies, units and project investors to advise and propose to competent authorities to arrange capital to ensure the approved project progress.

The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) properly and fully implemented regulations on project implementation procedures: contractor selection, quality management, investment cost management, investment supervision and evaluation, etc.

In the next step, investors need to pay attention to researching and evaluating traffic organization, updating the progress of related projects in the area to have a suitable traffic organization plan for each stage, ensuring convenience and safety.

At the same time, the investor proactively studies Decree 175 of the Government, Decision 258 of the Prime Minister and other relevant regulations to consider and apply the BIM (Building Information Modeling) model to ensure savings, efficiency, and meet the set schedule...

Urgent investment proposal to expand Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway

The 55km-long Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway is an important traffic route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Southeast region. However, in recent years, this expressway has become overloaded and traffic jams often occur.

The expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway from the intersection of Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 2 to the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway intersection, approximately 22km long, is very urgent in the context of the upcoming operation of Long Thanh Airport. The project is currently being implemented by the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC).

To shorten the implementation progress, in a recent dispatch sent to the Ministry of Finance , the Ministry of Construction agreed with VEC's proposal to implement the project in the form of emergency construction works. When the competent authority agrees to implement in this form, VEC can start the project on August 19, 2025 and basically complete it in 2026.
