According to the report, Ho Chi Minh City currently has 7 wastewater treatment plants and stations, with a total designed capacity of about 644,200m³/day, meeting only 40.8% of the urban wastewater treatment demand. Of which, there are 3 centralized treatment plants: Binh Hung (469,000m³/day), Binh Hung Hoa (30,000m³/day) and Tham Luong - Ben Cat phase 1 (131,000m³/day.

Four wastewater treatment stations in residential areas (decentralized) include: Tan Quy Dong wastewater treatment station, capacity 500 m3 /day; Vinh Loc B resettlement area wastewater treatment station, Binh Chanh district, capacity 3,700 m3 /day; 17.3ha resettlement area wastewater treatment station, Binh Khanh ward, Thu Duc city, capacity 3,000 m3/day; 38.4ha resettlement area wastewater treatment station, Binh Khanh ward, Thu Duc city, capacity 7,000 m3 / day .

In addition, the city has the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe wastewater treatment plant with a design capacity of 480,000 m3 /day under construction. According to the Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board, this plant is expected to be put into operation in 2025. At that time, the proportion of urban wastewater treated according to the design capacity of the plants by 2025 is expected to reach 71.3% compared to the amount of wastewater discharged according to the total water supply of the city of 1,577,767 m3 /day.

However, according to the assessment, the actual rate of wastewater collected and treated at some factories/stations is still lower than the design capacity, due to problems with collection and connection infrastructure.

Ho Chi Minh City aims to have an urban domestic wastewater treatment rate of over 85% by 2030. To realize this goal, the city needs to accelerate investment promotion, complete construction and put wastewater treatment plants into operation according to the plan, ensuring urban infrastructure development associated with sustainable environmental protection.
