On August 27, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy signed the Decision to declare an infectious disease, measles epidemic. The measles epidemic will occur in August 2024, covering the entire Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the decision, measles is a group B infectious disease; people at risk of contracting the disease are those who have not been vaccinated or have not been fully vaccinated; the disease can lead to serious complications and even death if not properly cared for and treated. Measles is transmitted through the respiratory tract from person to person. Measures to prevent measles, implemented in accordance with the Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, include: Strengthening the Steering Committee for Disease Prevention and Control of the city, district, Thu Duc City, wards, communes, and towns.

Cases of measles or suspected measles must make a full and accurate declaration to the health authority within 24 hours of diagnosis to be managed and tested according to regulations. Implement a campaign to supplement measles-rubella vaccination regardless of previous measles-rubella vaccination history for all children aged 1-5 living in Ho Chi Minh City. The age range can be expanded according to the epidemic situation according to regulations. Organize admission, treatment, care, medical isolation and disease control in the community according to the professional instructions of the Ministry of Health .

Previously, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City sent an official dispatch to the Department of Health , Department of Education and Training, Department of Information and Communications, District People's Committees, and Thu Duc City regarding the implementation of measles vaccination .

Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy assigned the Department of Health to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to review and implement the instructions of the Ministry of Health; regularly and closely monitor the developments of the measles epidemic, proactively strengthen surveillance, early detection and thoroughly handle outbreaks to prevent outbreaks in the community, promptly report to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the Ministry of Health in accordance with regulations. To be implemented in the third and fourth quarters of 2024.

On August 27, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) said that last week, Ho Chi Minh City recorded 85 cases of rash fever suspected of measles living in Ho Chi Minh City, of which 20 cases were positive (23.5%), 44 cases did not have samples taken (51.8%), 17 cases had no results (20.0%) and 4 cases were negative (4.7%).

The total number of suspected measles rash fever cases accumulated from the beginning of the year to last week was 525. Specifically, there were 209 positive cases (39.8%), 164 cases without samples (31.2%), 2 cases with indeterminate test results (0.4%), 23 cases with no results (4.4%) and 127 negative cases (24.2%).
