On November 12, the Department of Food Safety of Ho Chi Minh City announced that after the bread poisoning incident at Co B. Toad Bread, facility 1 Nguyen Thai Son (Hanh Thong ward) and facility 2 Le Quang Dinh (Binh Loi Trung ward) that caused 304 people to be hospitalized, the Department of Food Safety of Ho Chi Minh City will strengthen inspection and supervision of similar food processing and trading establishments in the area; resolutely handle violations of food safety regulations according to the law.

At the same time, strengthen propaganda and guidance for food service establishments to ensure food safety conditions, strictly control the origin and source of food ingredients, ensure hygiene during the process of preliminary processing, processing, and transporting food, three-step food inspection, and food sample storage; propagate to people in choosing food as well as food processing service establishments serving crowded events.

Previously, on November 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety received information from people about a suspected food poisoning incident after eating bread at the Toad Bread establishment of Ms. B. Nguyen Thai Son (Hanh Thong ward).

There have been 304 cases of poisoning after eating Ms. B's Toad Bread.

Immediately after receiving the information, the department proactively informed the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health and requested the Department of Health to direct medical examination and treatment facilities to coordinate with the Department of Food Safety to review and count the number of patients related to the suspected food poisoning case.

At the same time, the department has also established a team to investigate and handle food poisoning, coordinate with the People's Committee of Hanh Thong ward, the Department of Health and relevant authorities to synchronously deploy verification measures, take samples of food ingredients (pate, chicken, butter, pickles, cucumbers) to send for testing . At the same time , conduct epidemiological investigations, determine the origin of food and processing procedures to investigate the cause and handle the incident.

As of 10am on November 12, 304 cases had been examined and treated at 15 medical facilities in the city. The patients reported common symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain and vomiting. Most of the patients ate bread at the facility at 1 Nguyen Thai Son. Currently, 244 cases are stable and have been discharged from the hospital, while 60 patients are still being treated.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that test results from blood and stool cultures identified Salmonella enteritidis and Salmonella spp as the agents causing the poisoning symptoms.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health directed hospitals and the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control ( HCDC) to continue to coordinate with the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) to conduct microbiological culture tests and gene sequencing of isolated strains to clarify the cause and factors related to this cluster of food poisoning cases.

Currently, the Department of Food Safety is closely coordinating with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, the People's Committee of Hanh Thong Ward and specialized agencies to continue updating the health status of patients, counting the number of cases and treatments, and carrying out the next steps of the food poisoning investigation process according to regulations of the Ministry of Health .
