More than 20 years after its introduction to Vietnam, macadamia - once known as the "billion dollar tree" and "queen of nuts" - is gradually asserting its position in the agricultural production chain. With high nutritional value, clear economic efficiency and sustainable development potential, macadamia has been identified by the Government as one of the country's 20 main forestry crops since 2018.

Not only favored for its rich and nutritious flavor, macadamia nuts are also an important ingredient in many healthy diets, contributing to protecting the health of consumers, especially women and children. From cuisine to cosmetics, macadamia is gradually becoming an indispensable choice of modern lifestyle. Along with that, many localities have quickly grasped this trend to develop macadamia growing areas suitable to the natural conditions of each region.

In Nhu Xuan district - a mountainous district in the southwest of Thanh Hoa province - people have boldly introduced macadamia trees into their crop structure, gradually increasing their income and improving their lives. With nearly 50 hectares of land covered with macadamia trees, of which about 15 hectares are being harvested, this crop is opening up a new and promising direction for this land that still has many difficulties.

Not only limited to the household model, Nhu Xuan macadamia is also organized for production on a cooperative scale, typically the Thanh Phat Macadamia Cooperative of Ms. Pham Thi Thu and her husband. Linking production and consumption in a chain not only helps farmers feel secure in their cultivation, but also creates conditions for local macadamia products to gradually assert their position in the market.

From the first steps, macadamia trees are gradually becoming a "billion dollar tree", a "rich tree" for the people of Nhu Xuan, contributing to changing the face of the poor countryside.
