Overseas Vietnamese's hearts turn to the sea and islands

Offering flowers and incense to the statue and memorial house of President Ho Chi Minh; visiting the Phu Quoc Prison Martyrs' Memorial; visiting and presenting gifts to officers and soldiers of Brigade 127... are practical activities of the delegation of the Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and overseas Vietnamese towards the sea and islands during the visit to officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5.

From June 25-29, 38 delegates representing intellectuals, businessmen, cultural - social charity organizations, and outstanding overseas Vietnamese associations visited officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5. The visit was themed "Journey of overseas Vietnamese returning to their homeland's islands".

On June 26, the delegation led by Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai, Chairwoman and Head of the working group, came to offer flowers and incense at the Phu Quoc Prison Martyrs Memorial (also known as the Fist Symbol Area). The memorial was built in July 2013 with a circular design, with a statue of a fist on top, representing the spirit of indomitability against the enemy.

The delegation came to burn incense and visit the Phu Quoc Prison Relic Site. The delegates listened to explanations about 14 prison camps, of which 12 were built before 1972, while zones 13 and 14 were built at the end of 1972.

Delegates burned incense at the mass grave of more than 500 revolutionary soldiers who died at Phu Quoc prison.

Delegates visited the outdoor "barbed wire tiger cage" at the Relic Site.

Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai, on behalf of the delegation, wrote a souvenir at Phu Quoc Prison Relic Site.

Next, delegates offered flowers and incense at the monument and memorial house of President Ho Chi Minh.

The delegation visited and presented gifts to officers and soldiers of Brigade 127, Regiment 551, Battalion 563, and Radar Station 620. Ms. Tran Thi Hien, Vice President of VKBIA Seoul - Gyeonggido (Korea) Branch, a member of the delegation, expressed: “The trip, in addition to sincere gratitude and appreciation, also reminded us, the children living far from the Fatherland, to be more responsible, to make more determined efforts, to contribute to building the country, to join hands and contribute to protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the homeland. We will continue to spread to international friends, Korean friends and the surrounding community the good feelings towards Vietnam as well as the sacred love for the sea and islands of the Fatherland”.

Joining the delegation, Dr. Tran Hai Linh, member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the VKBIA Association, Chairman of the Founding Council of the Foundation for Vietnam Sea and Island Sovereignty in Korea, Deputy Head of the Global Liaison Committee for Vietnam Sea and Islands, said: "The trips are an opportunity to further understand the efforts, dedication and sacrifices of naval officers and soldiers in the cause of protecting the homeland's sea and islands."

According to Colonel Luong Quoc Anh, Deputy Commander of Naval Region 5: "Journey of overseas Vietnamese to the homeland's sea and islands" of the Delegation is a practical activity, helping overseas Vietnamese better understand the homeland's sea and islands as well as the living, working, studying and working conditions of officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5 Command and the unit's mission of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands".
