
At the program, 23 students from Thang Binh and Duy Xuyen districts whose fathers died in storm Chanchu in 2006 received scholarships.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the Provincial Education Promotion Fund Management Board awarded 29 Chanchu scholarships to 27 students and 2 high school students from Thang Binh district (20 scholarships), Duy Xuyen (3 scholarships), and Tam Ky city (6 scholarships).
Each student receives 3 million VND/scholarship, and each pupil receives 2 million VND/scholarship. Nguyen Thi Ha Giang (Ha Binh village, Binh Minh commune, Thang Binh) is supported with an additional 500,000 VND for households in difficult circumstances. The total value of this year's scholarship is 85.5 million VND.
Mr. Nguyen Van Long - Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam Province Association for the Promotion of Education said that in 2006, storm Chanchu swept through the sea off the coast of Vietnam, killing many fishermen, including fishermen from Thang Binh, Duy Xuyen, and Tam Ky.
To help students whose fathers died in the Chanchu storm overcome difficulties and excel in their studies, the provincial Association for Promotion of Education has mobilized to establish the Chanchu Scholarship Fund and maintain its annual awarding. Over nearly 20 years, the fund has awarded hundreds of scholarships to help students realize their dreams of going to school and conquering knowledge.
