The program aims to provide timely support to students in areas affected by natural disasters, helping them to quickly stabilize their studies and avoid disruption after storms and floods. This is also an important part of the social responsibility that the Vietnam Education Publishing House (NXBGDVN) has consistently carried out for many years.
To date, the program has donated 1,236,661 textbooks to students in provinces affected by floods, with a total cost equivalent to VND 19,679,201,800 (for the books).
Books and cash have been sent to many localities such as Dien Bien, Nghe An, Son La, Lai Chau, Tuyen Quang, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Bac Ninh , Thua Thien - Hue, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Lam Dong and Gia Lai.
The total amount of cash donated to schools severely damaged by floods to date is 803,632,067 VND. In the coming days, Vietnam Education Publishing House will continue to deliver the remaining donated books to schools in Gia Lai, Quang Ngai, and Khanh Hoa provinces (phase 2). Hundreds of thousands of students in disadvantaged areas have received and continue to receive practical support from the program.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Tung - Member of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Education Publishing House, said that this year's program was implemented under rather tight conditions, with several consecutive floods occurring in the mountainous provinces of the North, Central and Central Highlands regions.
Some of the difficulties include: Firstly, transportation was disrupted after the floods. Many areas were deeply flooded, landslides occurred, and roads leading to schools were damaged, making the transportation of books very difficult. Units of the Vietnam Education Publishing House had to coordinate closely with local authorities, even using multiple stages to ensure books reached schools; Secondly, the demand for books was large and dispersed. Each locality had different levels of damage; reviewing and compiling statistics on damaged books and the number of students needing support required accuracy and timeliness. The Vietnam Education Publishing House had to implement many solutions and tasks simultaneously to ensure progress; Thirdly, time was tight, but quality could not be compromised. Even when working quickly, the Vietnam Education Publishing House still had to ensure that the books reaching students were the correct set of books they were currently using, consistent, and met the actual needs of each school and class.
Regarding the significance of the program, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Tung stated: "Through reports and feedback from teachers, parents, and local authorities, we clearly feel that the students are extremely excited to have new books to continue their studies, no longer worrying about a shortage of books after the storms and floods. The school is more proactive in reorganizing teaching and learning, reducing the burden on teachers and parents. This activity demonstrates a spirit of partnership with the education sector, sharing the difficulties with the locality in a timely manner. And most importantly, it sends a message to students that: No matter how difficult the natural disaster may be, they will always be cared for and supported to continue attending school."
"It can be said that this is not just about donating books, but about giving back faith, motivation, and hope to students in flood-affected areas after the losses they and their families have experienced," Associate Professor Dr. Tran Van Tung emphasized.
