On the roads of the homeland

With a history of 79 years, Phu Yen press has accompanied the Party Committee, government and people of the province. In particular, in the 36 years since the re-establishment of the province, Phu Yen press has actively contributed to promoting the image, attracting investment, criticizing policies, and spreading beautiful stories about the people and culture of Phu Yen.

MSc. PHAN TOAN THANG, CHIEF OF OFFICE OF VIETNAM JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION: Overcoming difficulties, sacrifices, sticking to political tasks

Operating in conditions lacking in equipment and having to move frequently to avoid enemy pursuit, generations of Phu Yen revolutionary journalists still “wrote with blood, printed with fire”, promptly reporting on the struggle movement, encouraging the spirit of wholeheartedly following the Party and Uncle Ho. The newspaper was not only a means of information but also a sharp ideological weapon, contributing with the whole country to “fight the Americans out, fight the puppets to the ground”, moving towards national reunification.

The pages of the Solidarity and Liberation newspapers will forever be historical evidence of the indomitable will of Phu Yen revolutionary journalism - whose writers were also soldiers, contributing to writing the glorious history of the heroic "land of fire" homeland.

From that historical flow, it can be seen that Phu Yen press in the period 1945-1975 was a natural continuation of the spirit of revolutionary press throughout the country, while also carrying its own unique local characteristics - a place where the talents and enthusiasm of people who both held pens and guns converged.

The period from the liberation of Phu Yen (April 1, 1975) to the merger with Khanh Hoa province to form Phu Khanh province and the re-establishment of Phu Yen province (July 1, 1989) was a turbulent period, posing new requirements for revolutionary journalism. In that context, the team of Phu Yen journalists steadfastly overcame difficulties, successfully completed their political tasks, and contributed to stabilizing, building and developing their homeland after the war.

Since the province’s re-establishment, Phu Yen’s press has gone through a 36-year journey of development, closely associated with the cause of building and defending the homeland. Under the leadership of the provincial Party Committee, generations of Phu Yen journalists have constantly innovated and created, successfully fulfilling their political tasks, while affirming their position as a “bridge” between the Party, the government and the people.

MR. NGUYEN TRUNG THANH, FORMER OFFICIAL WORKER IN PHU YEN REVOLUTIONARY PRESS: Holding both a gun and a pen during the resistance war

During the war, the hot press works of the journalist-soldiers about the battlefield atmosphere contributed to lighting up the faith and strength of the army and people of the province in the cause of national liberation.

In the early days of its establishment, the propaganda team under the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department did not have a newspaper office like today, located in Hoa Thuan village, Son Dinh, Son Hoa, then moved to Zone 1, An Linh, Tuy An. Reporters did both propaganda work and wrote for newspapers. After Tet Mau Than 1968, the propaganda team was reinforced with journalists Ha Binh, Tran Thien Luc from Battalion 13 and comrade Nguyen Phung - a cadre who had returned from the North; comrade Bang Tin, poet Thanh Que, poet Tran Vu Mai were reinforced from Zone 5. Thanh Que had the poem Co gai Hoa Dinh Dong , Tran Vu Mai had the long poem O lang Phuoc Hau . The propaganda team had only 4-5 people who wrote for newspapers, wrote newsletters and did propaganda work.

Born in the middle of a mountainous war zone with countless difficulties, under the leadership and direction of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, the propaganda department, with the core being comrades: Phan Van Nguyen (Ba Nguyen), Nguyen Phung (Tam Phung), Luong Thuc Quy and the brothers working for Phu Yen Giai Phong newspaper, both holding guns and holding pens, always excellently completed the assigned tasks.

When there were no liaison officers to guide them, the soldier-journalists found their own way to the units to contact them for work. The journalists were always present at the fierce places to honestly, accurately and vividly record the glorious feats of arms and soldiers of the province. There were reports that the reporters had to sit and write right in the bunkers and fortifications while the enemy was still firing outside.

With courage and alertness, they threw themselves into the war, recording real images, forgetting about the bombs and bullets surrounding them. Many reporters heroically sacrificed their lives on the battlefield...

Nowadays, with the development of technology, journalists write articles that reflect quickly, promptly, and accurately, and we must share and appreciate the work of reporters during the anti-American war to save the country. They have enriched and brightened the tradition of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism in the cause of building and defending the Vietnamese Fatherland.

JOURNALIST PHAM DOAN ANH KIET, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF PHU YEN JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION: Active and effective contribution to the cause of building and protecting the homeland

As a part of the Vietnamese revolutionary press, in recent years, Phu Yen press has developed remarkably in both quantity and quality, making positive and effective contributions to the cause of building and protecting the homeland and country. After Phu Yen province was re-established, on August 10, 1989, the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee issued Decision 23 to establish the Phu Yen Journalists Association.

Entering its 36th year, through 6 congresses, Phu Yen Journalists Association, from the beginning with only nearly 20 journalist members in 3 units: Phu Yen People's Voice Station, Phu Yen Television Station and Phu Yen Newspaper, has now grown to 145 members, operating in 4 journalist branches: Phu Yen Radio and Television Station, Phu Yen Newspaper, Association Office, Resident Journalists Branch in Phu Yen; has 2 affiliated clubs: Retired Journalists Club and Female Journalists Club.

Inheriting and promoting the tradition of Vietnam's revolutionary press, in recent years, the Phu Yen Journalists Association and press agencies in the province have focused on widely propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and policies; encouraging and motivating patriotic emulation movements; propagating socio-economic development; maintaining national defense and security; proactively fighting against plots and sabotage activities of hostile forces.

Phu Yen press is also an active information channel participating in social supervision, promoting critical thinking; detecting and fighting corruption, waste and negative manifestations, contributing to orienting social ideology and public opinion; regularly organizing the reception, processing and posting of citizens' feedback, creating a multi-dimensional forum for all classes of people. Many negative cases, intentional violations of State regulations on economic management by individuals and units discovered by the press, brought to public opinion have been highly constructive, and have been resolved by the authorities in coordination, creating trust among cadres, party members and people in the province.

Proud of the Vietnamese revolutionary press for a century, we are also very proud of Phu Yen press with 79 years of formation and development.
