Implementing the Vietnam - Brunei Comprehensive Partnership

The two leaders agreed to increase high-level exchanges and contacts, creating a premise for implementing the Action Program to implement the Vietnam - Brunei Comprehensive Partnership for the period 2023-2027. The two sides also agreed to promote trade growth in a diversified and balanced manner through expanding cooperation in potential areas with four main focuses: cooperation in oil and gas, chemicals, Halal products, tourism , and people-to-people exchange.

On the morning of May 10, 2023, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam on the occasion of attending the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his pleasure at meeting the King again and discussing directions for effectively implementing the results of the Prime Minister's official visit to Brunei in February 2023.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Brunei to facilitate Vietnamese goods to access the market, including Halal-standard agricultural and aquatic products; to soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding on agricultural and aquatic cooperation between the two countries; to effectively maintain a hotline to support fishing activities; and to create conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to participate in construction projects and provide oil and gas technical services in Brunei. Appreciating the Vietnamese language training model at the Brunei National University, the Prime Minister hoped that Brunei would expand this model and strengthen educational cooperation between the two countries.

The Sultan of Brunei highly appreciated the results of the Prime Minister's visit to Brunei, creating a premise for the Vietnam-Brunei Comprehensive Partnership to continuously develop. The Sultan said that the two countries still have much potential for cooperation, especially in economics, trade, investment, agriculture, fisheries, energy, education and training, defense, and people-to-people exchange. The Sultan said that it is time for the two sides to set new goals for bilateral trade growth.

The two sides pledged to maintain close consultation and join hands in building a united, resilient and sustainably developing ASEAN Community.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister conveyed the greetings of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other senior leaders of Vietnam to the King and Queen; and the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong to the King and Queen to visit Vietnam again soon. The Sultan of Brunei thanked the senior leaders of Vietnam and the Prime Minister and affirmed his wish to visit Vietnam again soon./.
