The whole Trieu Phong district has 16 communes and towns with 24,901 households/95,035 people, including 5 coastal and coastal communes with 9,182 households/34,874 people, 4,526 married women aged 15-49. The work of reproductive health care/family planning of the locality has always received attention and direction from the Party Committee and authorities at all levels.

Immediately after the plan of the Provincial Population Office on the implementation of population and development work; guidance on organizing the implementation of activities of the Project on population control in sea, island and coastal areas, the District Health Center and 100% of communes in the project issued plans on the implementation of activities. The district promoted communication activities on mass media and the population sector's Facebook page with diverse and rich content and communication forms.

At the same time, strengthen propaganda and direct mobilization in the community through a team of collaborators. Thanks to that, it creates a strong change in awareness and changes in people's behavior in implementing population and development policies in coastal areas.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dung, a population officer of Trieu Tan commune, Trieu Phong district, shared: “Trieu Tan has a large population and women of childbearing age. Therefore, the population collaborators always make efforts, regularly go to every alley, knock on every door, check each subject to propagate, mobilize, and advise.

“Slow and steady wins the race”, people are aware of the importance of reproductive health care, prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and the use of safe and effective contraceptive methods. Women of childbearing age have been more proactive in carrying out prenatal and newborn screening to give birth to healthy children. Thanks to that, the implementation of the project in the commune has been more favorable.”

In order to meet the people's need for reproductive health care, in 2024, the district will organize seminars on prenatal and newborn screening for more than 180 young men and women. 190 pregnant mothers will be provided with knowledge and skills to prevent high-risk factors that directly affect the normal development of the fetus.

40 young men and women preparing to get married were provided with knowledge and skills to prevent unwanted pregnancies and the benefits of premarital health check-ups. Implementing a communication campaign integrating the provision of population - family planning services in 3 communes in the project area. For communes not in the campaign area, the District Health Center proactively supported the provision of population - family planning services to the health station.

Reproductive health care/family planning for coastal residents is also integrated into the activities of the Project to enhance the provision of information and population services - family planning for adolescents and young people and the Program to expand screening, diagnosis and treatment of some prenatal and neonatal diseases and disabilities being implemented locally. 100% of commune health stations in the project area have organized classification and created records to manage and monitor high-risk mothers.

Head of the Department of Population - Health Education and Communication, Trieu Phong District Medical Center, Le Thi Canh Hoa said: "Thanks to active propaganda and mobilization, the quality of the coastal population of the district is being improved and stabilized in size.

The number of couples of childbearing age using contraceptives by the end of the first quarter of 2025 in the whole district was 9,052 couples, the rate of giving birth to the third child or more was 15.09%, the number of pregnant women screened before birth was 59.7%, the number of children screened at birth was 81.4%. It can be seen that the implementation of the reproductive health care/family planning program with many activities has brought practical benefits to the people, especially women in coastal areas.

Besides the achieved results, currently the work of reproductive health care/family planning for coastal people still faces many difficulties. For example, for coastal women, the application of contraceptive methods is often not self-determined but depends heavily on the husband.

Meanwhile, men often go to sea for long periods of time, so propaganda is limited. Some contraceptive methods are still lacking and do not meet the needs of couples of childbearing age, such as implants and injections.

In order to improve the quality of population and the quality of life of coastal people, in the coming time, Trieu Phong district will continue to synchronously implement many solutions such as: strengthening and innovating communication and education activities. Improving the capacity and effectiveness of the commune population staff, especially maintaining and promoting the effectiveness of the population collaborator network to bring information on population policies and guidelines to the people.

Coordinate with departments, branches, unions and socio-political organizations to organize communication sessions and conferences to provide information on population in the new situation. Improve the quality of activities of population and development models, projects and programs.

Continue to provide population services and reproductive health care/family planning for people, especially women of childbearing age, thereby contributing to the successful implementation of Resolution No. 21-NQ/TW, dated October 25, 2017 of the 12th Central Executive Committee on population work in the new situation.
