North Korea slams US Golden Arches plan as dangerous threat

(GLO)- On May 27, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the North Korean Foreign Ministry has just criticized US President Donald Trump's plan to build the Golden Dome missile defense system as a "very dangerous threatening initiative".

According to the North Korean statement, the Golden Dome plan “is a typical product of America First, self-righteousness, arrogance, arbitrary action and imposition; it is a scenario of nuclear war in space.” The Golden Dome’s goal is to utilize a network of hundreds of satellites orbiting the earth, equipped with sophisticated sensors and interceptors, to destroy enemy missiles as soon as they are launched from countries such as China, Iran, North Korea or Russia.

Last week, China also expressed “serious concern” about the Golden Dome missile defense system and called on Washington to abandon its development. Meanwhile, the US believes that China and Russia have put offensive weapons into space, such as satellites that can disable important Washington satellites.

Earlier, on May 20, US President Donald Trump said he had selected a design for the Golden Dome missile defense system and assigned a leader to the $175 billion program. Mr. Trump hopes the system will be operational before his term ends in 2029. However, a US official familiar with the program said the complex system will have some initial capabilities by then but cannot be completed that soon.
