Chrome browser has always been a 'hot spot' for hackers.
The attack, discovered on December 24th, affected numerous extensions, including Cyberhaven, ParrotTalks, Uvoice, and VPNCity. The hackers' goal was to steal users' login credentials on social media and artificial intelligence platforms.
For Facebook Ads users, the malware is designed to steal access tokens, user IDs, cookies, and other critical account information. Even more dangerously, hackers insert click-listeners to collect information and bypass two-factor authentication (2FA).
Immediately after discovering the incident, Cyberhaven sent email notifications to users, advising them to quickly change their passwords and other login information. The malicious version of the extension was also removed within an hour and replaced with a clean version.
This incident once again raises the alarm about information security in cyberspace. Users need to be more vigilant and cautious when installing and using extensions, and should regularly update their passwords to protect their personal information.
