Chrome browser is always a 'hot spot' for hackers
The attack, discovered on December 24, affected several extensions, including Cyberhaven, ParrotTalks, Uvoice, and VPNCity. The hackers' goal was to steal users' login credentials on social media and artificial intelligence platforms.
For Facebook Ads users, the malware was designed to steal access tokens, user IDs, cookies, and other important account information. Even more dangerous, hackers also added click listeners to collect information and bypass two-factor authentication (2FA).
Immediately after the incident was discovered, Cyberhaven sent out email notifications to users, advising them to quickly change their passwords and other login information. The malicious version of the extension was also removed within an hour and replaced with a clean version.
This incident once again raises the alarm about information security in cyberspace. Users need to be more vigilant and cautious when installing and using extensions, and regularly update passwords to protect personal information.
