The Government proposed to include the policy of expanding the issuance of e- visas and extending the temporary residence period for foreigners entering the country under unilateral visa exemption in the National Assembly's Joint Resolution at the 5th session.

Regarding the e-visa policy, the Government proposes to issue e-visas to citizens of all countries and territories and assigns the Government to decide on a specific list. At the same time, the e-visa duration will be increased from no more than 30 days to no more than 3 months, valid for single or multiple entries.
The Government proposed to increase the time limit for granting temporary residence certificates at border gates for people entering the country under unilateral visa exemption from 15 days to 45 days.
Three days ago, at a working session with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism , National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue directed that visa problems that hinder tourism development must be urgently resolved. If the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam is not amended in time, it can be proposed to the National Assembly to include it in a resolution during the next session.
The Ministry of Public Security is also implementing the amendment of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam in parallel. The draft is currently being submitted to the Ministry of Justice for appraisal.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, after the Government restored immigration policies and allowed tourism to open from March 2022, immigration activities have gradually returned to normal. The number of foreigners entering Vietnam in 2022 increased 6.6 times compared to 2021 but is still low compared to the pre-pandemic period, only 32.6% compared to 2019.
In the context of the tourism industry being affected after the pandemic, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, foreign diplomatic missions in Vietnam, trade associations, foreign enterprises, the Tourism Advisory Council... have many recommendations to be more open in Vietnam's visa policy to contribute to improving competitiveness and attracting international tourists in the coming time.
Therefore, the Ministry of Public Security believes that amending a number of provisions of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam to create more favorable conditions for foreign tourists, experts and investors is necessary.
