Supporting the development of smart factories for domestic enterprises - Part 1

Việt NamViệt Nam12/11/2024

Lesson 1: New direction for industry

(BDO) Currently, more than 90% of domestic enterprises are small and medium-sized enterprises. Therefore, developing and upgrading production plants towards smartness along with dual transformation is a goal but still has many challenges. Therefore, enterprises really need the support of functional sectors.

Can't stand outside the trend

Currently, with the self-screening and selection mechanism, manufacturing enterprises in Binh Duong are facing many challenges, having to compete with large corporations not only in the international market but also in the domestic market. Therefore, developing smart factories is an inevitable trend for manufacturing enterprises.

Experts introduce smart factory models

According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Vu, Chairman of Binh Duong Leather and Footwear Association, the application of technology, digital transformation and smart factories are inevitable trends for sustainable development. However, enterprises, especially small and medium enterprises, are still facing many barriers when accessing technology and need more support to accelerate the transformation process. The application of technology and digital transformation is a difficult problem for most enterprises today, because model transformation requires a comprehensive change from thinking to capital and human resource investment.

In manufacturing, digital transformation is an important key to improving competitiveness and position in the global supply chain. In particular, footwear is an industry with unique products that are fashionable, trendy and constantly changing. For the footwear industry, digital transformation has been helping businesses change themselves, supplying domestic and foreign markets with quality products, beautiful designs, meeting the strict requirements of the international market.

Currently, many "Make in Vietnam" products and solutions applying new technologies such as AI, BigData, IoT have been born with diverse functions and many advantages compared to foreign products in terms of cost, resources and suitability for Vietnamese enterprises.

“In fact, domestic footwear enterprises have not yet caught up with the digital transformation trend to promote development. Therefore, it is necessary to have a deep and comprehensive transformation in terms of thinking and strategy, boldly applying digital transformation and automation to improve competitiveness, production capacity and opportunities to participate in the global supply chain. And we hope to be supported, surveyed and selected methods that are suitable for our capacity, finance and development orientation,” Mr. Vu proposed.

At Nam Binh Shoe Company, owned by Mr. Nguyen Quang Vu, optimizing the production process with technology is considered an inevitable requirement. Therefore, the company has been building a suitable digital transformation roadmap, applying new technologies such as 3D printing, moving towards using robots in production or combining new virtual reality technologies to help the footwear industry improve productivity, meet the fashion needs of consumers and enhance the shopping experience.

Mr. Luu Tri, Vice President of Binh Duong Electromechanical Association, Director of Nghe Nang Company said: Enterprises need to consider comprehensively transforming their production and business strategies. This requires support for the leadership to choose development options, control the transformation process and speed up the implementation progress.

According to Mr. Tri, currently, electromechanical enterprises are facing difficulties in linking with FDI enterprises; the number of enterprises participating in the electronics industry chain is very small, not meeting the requirements of synchronization in technical standards, components, etc. This requires support to develop and upgrade production in the direction of developing smart, modern factories and digitizing processes.

“At Nghe Nang Company, we determined that in order to develop systematically, professionally, have competitive capacity and supply high-end products to FDI enterprises in the area, the company must quickly apply technology and promote digitalization in production. With that clear goal, we motivate our staff to be determined, determined and make efforts to successfully implement the smart manufacturing project,” Mr. Luu Tri shared.

Connecting "3 houses"

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Toan, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, affirmed: We have many opportunities to realize digital transformation, helping businesses develop more strongly in the coming time. However, to be successful, businesses need to proactively adapt and innovate. And to accompany businesses in the digital transformation process, the Department of Industry and Trade has coordinated with Thu Dau Mot University to support businesses in choosing a digital transformation model, aiming to develop towards a smart factory for businesses.

Connecting state management agencies, universities with information technology enterprises, manufacturing enterprises, and industry associations to discuss challenges, opportunities, and digital transformation roadmaps in each enterprise will find practical solutions to effectively apply the smart factory model.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Toan spoke at the conference "Promoting digital transformation model for enterprises in the industry and trade sector in 2024"

According to Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Chairman of the Board of Thu Dau Mot University, in recent times, the combination of the three parties “State – University – Enterprise” has achieved many outstanding results in many fields. In digital transformation activities, the university will be an important factor contributing to the success of this process.

On April 15, 2022, Thu Dau Mot University held a ceremony to announce the Digital Transformation Training Project and establish the Forecasting Center. This is an important event for Binh Duong province in implementing the province's Digital Transformation Plan for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030.

Since then, the school has had many training programs on digital transformation for civil servants, employees, students, pupils and citizens. The school has also built 60 experts in the field of digital transformation according to national standards.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Toan, Director of Department of Industry and Trade

In the context of globalization and the 4.0 industrial revolution, digital transformation is not only a trend but also an inevitable requirement for businesses. In the era of technology and data changing the way of production and business, the smart factory model, with its connectivity and automation capabilities, will help us optimize production processes, improve productivity and reduce costs.
