In Ta Mung commune, there are currently 338.11 hectares of tea, of which 310 hectares are commercial tea. For a long time, people in the commune have been cultivating according to traditional methods, so the productivity and quality of tea are not high. Therefore, the potential and strengths of tea trees have not been fully exploited. According to Mr. Doan Van Phu - Vice Chairman of Ta Mung Commune People's Committee, with the goal of developing tea trees in the direction of commodities associated with environmental protection, at the end of 2023, the Party Committee and the commune government have promoted and mobilized people to change their traditional farming habits to organic tea production.

Accordingly, people apply new technical measures and gradually reduce the use of chemicals, replacing them with organic fertilizers and safe biological products in tea production. The commune also coordinates with specialized agencies of the district to organize training and technical support. The output of organically grown tea products will be purchased by Tuyen Phuong Construction Company Limited (Muong Kim commune) and support people with fertilizers and biological products, and payment will be made after the tea harvest.

Up to now, the whole Ta Mung commune has 50 hectares of tea grown organically, concentrated in the villages of Lun, Pa Lieng, Ho Ta... Notably, at this time, the selling price is also about 1 thousand VND/kg higher than tea grown in the traditional way. Mr. Lo Van Nan's family in Pa Lieng village participates in organic tea care with an area of 1 hectare. Previously, Mr. Nan used chemical fertilizers and chemical pesticides to care for and prevent diseases on tea plants. However, when the Party Committee and the commune government propagated and encouraged him to grow and care for tea in an organic way, Mr. Nan realized that the indiscriminate use of inorganic fertilizers and chemical pesticides not only pollutes the environment and water sources but also affects his health when the tea plants still contain many toxic residues.

Mr. Nan confided: "When I was encouraged to take care of tea in an organic way, my family was still hesitant. Because producing tea in this way requires strict adherence to the cultivation process of not using chemical pesticides, inorganic fertilizers, instead using organic microbial fertilizers, biological pesticides. Besides, taking care of tea in an organic way, productivity decreases in the early stages, and the family's income also decreases because of that. But in return, tea is more expensive and safer, better for consumers' health, so I try again. Up to now, the tea tree is gradually recovering, promising to bring economic efficiency."

Thanks to organic tea production, the value of tea products after harvest of Ta Mung commune people has been increased.

Similar to Mr. Nan's family, Mrs. Deo Thi Banh's family in Lun village also takes care of 6,000m2 of organic tea. According to Mrs. Banh, participating in organic tea cultivation has brought practical benefits to her family. First of all, the quality of tea has been significantly improved, the flavor is more delicious and rich, meeting the requirements of demanding markets. Thanks to that, the selling price of organic tea is higher than that of tea grown by traditional methods. At the same time, the output is also stable due to the connection with purchasing enterprises. In particular, when pesticides and chemical fertilizers are no longer used, the health of tea growers is ensured, the soil environment is also improved, loose and less pests. In addition, during the cultivation process, they also participate in training courses and receive technical support to properly apply the tea growing process. From there, improving the knowledge and skills of farmers.

Mr. Doan Van Phu - Vice Chairman of Ta Mung Commune People's Committee said: Implementing organic tea care has gradually changed people's awareness in producing clean tea with clear origin. In the coming time, the commune will continue to mobilize people to expand the area of organic tea care to 100 hectares. Thereby, gradually improving the quality, value of products and farmers' income, contributing to protecting consumers' health.

The transition to organic tea production is opening up a new direction for the tea industry in Ta Mung commune. This is a promising direction, both meeting modern consumer needs and promoting sustainable rural development.
