The Indonesian jackfruit growing model was implemented on the hilly land of An My village, Cam Tuyen commune. There were 12 households participating with an area of 2 hectares, each hectare planted an average of 300 trees. This is a model with large-scale and systematic investment from land preparation, planting to irrigation system. After 2 years of planting, the trees grew very well, had few pests and diseases and started to produce a lot of fruit.
However, to ensure the tree grows and develops well according to the technical process, people only leave 5 fruits on each tree. Currently, jackfruit has reached the harvest period, the average weight is about 10 kg/fruit, large fruits up to 15 kg. With the market price of 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg, each tree is worth more than 1 million VND on average, each hectare is about 300 million VND.
“Currently, the consumption market for this type of jackfruit is mainly at local markets, so the selling price is not high. In the future, the local government will coordinate with relevant agencies to carry out the process of granting area codes, food safety certificates, building brands; and linking to bring Indonesian jackfruit products to supermarkets to increase farmers' income,” Mr. Binh added.
