China successfully manufactured electric car battery that can charge for 5 minutes and travel 200km

General Motors (GM) and its partner CATL (China) have just launched an electric vehicle battery with outstanding fast charging capabilities, promising to completely change the way electric vehicle users experience their vehicles. This is considered the fastest charging battery line ever.

Interesting Engineering said that this new battery belongs to the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery line with an impressive 6C charge factor (The "C" factor represents the battery's charging speed).

With a long operating range and fast charging capability, the 6C battery allows users to travel more than 200km after only 5 minutes of charging. This helps to reduce range anxiety – one of the biggest problems for electric vehicle users.

GM plans to integrate the battery into Ultium, the platform that will power its next generation of electric vehicles. The 6C battery is scheduled to be integrated into Ultium’s high-voltage battery architecture of nearly 900V next year.

Ultium was launched by GM in March 2020 and plays a core role in the company's upcoming electric vehicles.

The 6C battery uses several new technologies to increase charging efficiency and reliability. In addition to these improvements, the new battery line also features a new electrolyte composition that not only improves ion conductivity but also reduces electrolyte viscosity, thereby optimizing the lithium ion reduction process in the battery.

According to Interesting Engineering, this battery has set a new standard for the electric vehicle industry in terms of charging speed, surpassing even the fastest charging products on the market today. It is known that the fastest Chinese batteries currently have a charging coefficient of 5.5C, but CATL and GM are aiming higher with 6C batteries.

In August, Chinese automaker Zeekr launched the Zeekr 007 2025 sedan, equipped with a second-generation Gold Battery with a 5.5C charging coefficient. The car can charge from 10% to 80% in just 10.5 minutes, increasing the driving range to 482km according to the CLTC standard test cycle - a significant step up from previous technology.

Thus, with 6C battery technology, electric vehicle users can look forward to a future where charging is just a matter of minutes, significantly increasing the convenience and efficiency of electric vehicles in everyday life.
