Logistics centers are not yet connected into a network, so they have not yet fully exploited their advantages to reduce costs and create more favorable conditions for import and export goods of Vietnamese enterprises.
Vietnam Logistics has recorded rapid and strong developments with a growth rate of 13 - 15%/year. The logistics model of one location but being able to concentrate all activities related to transportation, storage, and distribution of domestic and international goods will be an effective solution, helping to reduce service costs, creating more favorable conditions for import and export of goods of Vietnamese enterprises.
Single logistics - high costs
Determining the strategy of making logistics an essential factor to enhance national competitiveness, Ms. Truong Thi Mui, Deputy General Director of Bac Giang International Logistics Company Limited, said that logistics centers are meeting the expectations of businesses as well as partners and customers. However, in parallel with location planning, it is necessary to have functional planning so that the centers do not overlap, maximize the strengths of location and area, and focus on serving different customer groups.
“The orientation of enterprises will have to diversify in solutions, thereby providing the market with solutions that ensure not only providing logistics services, but also a more generalized vision to be able to connect with potential users, thereby bringing common value to the market and to enterprises in particular,” said Ms. Mui.
Logistics centers need to support and assist each other effectively in the process of providing services to the market, this is the opinion of Mr. Hoang Dinh Kien, General Director of Hoa Phat Logistics Joint Stock Company (Hoa Phat Logistics). He believes that the centers need to have a strategic position and strategic role to lead the market, thereby being more determined in performing their functions and strategic roles.
Because of the reality of global trade fluctuations, it is leading to changes and disruptions in the supply chain, which in turn causes infrastructure, people and logistics services to change as well. However, all changes in geography and goods flow will lead to very high costs for businesses.
“In fact, for a long time now, businesses have been waiting to establish logistics centers. With the fluctuations of international trade, businesses expect centers with a scale and strategic location with more reasonable functions and roles in regulating the market. Logistics centers must be a bridge to regulate the flow of goods with the best service system for customers,” Mr. Kien said.
More efficient synchronous development
Affirming that over the past 10 years, the number of logistics centers in Vietnam has increased 10 times, Ms. Dang Hong Nhung, Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) informed that the scale and distribution scope of Vietnam's logistics centers are changing a lot, especially the transition from traditional to modern logistics centers applying 4.0 technology.
However, Ms. Nhung also frankly admitted that the development of logistics centers in recent times has revealed certain limitations. Especially in attracting investment and developing the center system, there are still many difficulties. Along with that, regulations on management mechanisms and policies related to center development are still lacking and not specific.
“Although there are orientations for developing logistics centers, there are currently no regulations on what constitutes a logistics center, how to classify and rank centers, or what criteria are required for such centers,” Ms. Nhung pointed out.
Therefore, Ms. Nhung believes that these are problems that need to be solved by state management agencies in the coming time, so that the Vietnamese logistics center system can develop faster and stronger. Especially when the centers currently play an extremely important role, optimizing the flow of goods, finance and information.
“Logistics centers are considered an effective model in connecting and consuming goods, and are a bridge linking economic sectors, localities and regions. Logistics is considered the blood vessels of the national economy, playing a role in connecting, supporting and promoting economic sectors. To carry out the mission of developing logistics centers, one of the important solutions is to develop a synchronous national system, within the general logistics infrastructure system,” Ms. Nhung frankly said.
According to experts, when there is a synchronous transportation system, logistics centers will be an important factor to perform functions from basic to advanced, such as storing, loading and unloading goods, classifying goods, etc., thereby creating and increasing added value.
