On September 18, Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia met with Australian Co-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Co-Minister of Immigration Matthew Thistlethwaite; President of the Communist Party of Australia Vinnie Molina; and President of the Australia-Vietnam Friendship Association Kim Samson; and visited and talked with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia.
Welcoming Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia and the Vietnamese delegation to Australia, Co-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Matthew Thistlethwaite affirmed that the visit took place at a time when the relationship between the two countries was developing well, with bilateral economic and trade relations having very positive changes, despite the fluctuations of the world economy. Australia wishes to cooperate with Vietnam to promote free trade and a rules-based international order, and strengthen the role of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The Australian Foreign and Trade Ministers highly appreciated the deep defense cooperation between the two countries on the basis of the peacekeeping partnership agreement signed in 2024, highlighting Vietnam's role in UN peacekeeping operations. In addition, people-to-people exchanges between the two countries have also increased strongly with more Australians visiting Vietnam and Vietnamese students studying in Australia.
Co-Minister Matthew Thistlethwaite said that the Australian Government has recently agreed to promote agricultural cooperation with Vietnam by granting visas to the first batch of 44/1,000 Vietnamese agricultural workers to Australia under the agreement between the two countries.
For his part, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia congratulated the Australian Government on its recent achievements and highly appreciated the positive results of the recent state visit of Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn to Vietnam, creating an important milestone for the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; affirmed that the Party and Government of Vietnam attach importance to the position and role of Australia and wish to strengthen cooperation in all fields with Australia; and at the same time, suggested that the two sides actively coordinate and effectively implement high-level agreements and existing cooperation mechanisms to bring practical benefits to the people of the two countries.
During a meeting with the Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia, President of the Australia-Vietnam Friendship Association Kim Samson expressed his impression of Vietnam's strong development in recent years under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Based on the activities of the Australia-Vietnam Friendship Association in recent times, Mr. Kim Samson pledged to continue promoting people-to-people friendship with Vietnam, including informing about Vietnam's development achievements.
Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia thanked and appreciated the active activities of the Australia - Vietnam Friendship Association in promoting cooperation and friendship with Vietnam, especially in the fields of health and science; and asked the Association's President to continue to promote his role as a bridge to more strongly spread the friendship and mutual understanding between the people of the two countries.
Meanwhile, President of the Communist Party of Australia Vinnie Molina expressed his pleasure at meeting Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia and the high-ranking delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam; expressed his admiration for the Vietnamese people in their past struggle for independence and congratulated them on their achievements in building socialism today.
Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia proposed further strengthening the traditional friendship and good cooperation between the two parties through sharing information and policies on each party, exchanging theories, and promoting cooperation in information work, press, publishing, and mass mobilization.
At the working session with the Vietnamese Embassy in Canberra, Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia praised the efforts and congratulated the Ambassador and the Embassy staff in performing their assigned political tasks; requested the staff and Party members of the Embassy to promote solidarity, increase initiative and sense of responsibility in coordinating with agencies to promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Australia to develop more strongly, bringing practical benefits and meeting the increasing demands of the country in the new development stage.
At the meetings and working sessions, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia also informed Australian partners about the economic, social and foreign development achievements that Vietnam has achieved in recent times, about the development goals set by the Communist Party of Vietnam, about important guidelines and policies to promote institutional reform, perfect the legal system to create breakthroughs, promote economic growth, and bring Vietnam into a new period of development, an era of national growth.
