On November 15, Mr. Nguyen Thai Phong, Principal of Vo Thi Sau Primary School (Hai Chau Ward, Da Nang City), said that the school had just sent an open letter to parents, partners and sister units, announcing that they would not accept flowers and gifts on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20 this year.

According to Mr. Phong, this is the first time the school has proposed this policy. In the open letter, the teachers expressed their wish that parents would turn their gratitude into practical gifts to send to teachers and students in the areas recently affected by storms and floods in the Central region, through official channels.

The open letter said that this year's Vietnamese Teachers' Day comes at a time when many schools and families in the Central region are dealing with the consequences of natural disasters; many students still lack books and learning materials to return to school.

“As educators , we cannot help but feel anxious when our colleagues are having difficulty returning to normal life, when students in many places are still struggling to go to school,” the open letter stated.

In that spirit, the teachers and staff of Vo Thi Sau Primary School decided not to accept flowers or gifts on the occasion of November 20.

The school believes that the gifts parents sent to the flood-affected areas are the "most beautiful flowers of gratitude" and also the most meaningful gifts that teachers received on this year's holiday.

After the open letter was released, many parents expressed their agreement with the school.

Ms. Le Thu Ha (residing in Hai Chau Ward, Da Nang City), a parent of a 4th grade student at Vo Thi Sau Primary School, shared: “The school’s policy is very meaningful. On the day of gratitude to teachers, I can contribute to helping those in need, which is even more fulfilling.”

Previously, at the end of October, to support people in coping with storm Fangshen (storm No. 12), Vo Thi Sau Primary School opened the school gate for people to bring cars and motorbikes to avoid flooding; at the same time, arranged 10 classrooms as storm and flood shelters for people.
