Young students eagerly get acquainted with AK submachine guns

Summer days are more exciting and meaningful

In mid-June, 43 "child soldiers" officially began a 7-day training journey in a military environment at Battalion 1, Regiment 6 (Hue City Military Command) - where there is no more mother's alarm clock, no familiar bed, only discipline and comradeship.

On the first day of participating in the "Military Semester" program, the children were organized, approached the living area, listened to the rules and got used to a disciplined life: folding blankets at right angles, arranging shoes neatly, eating on time - sleeping on time.

The afternoon is the time to practice self-reliance, do housekeeping, and increase production with the soldiers. The evening is the time to bond through platoon activities, dance together, show off talents, and make new friendships.

Hoang Chi Thanh (Squad 4) shared: “In my mind and many others, summer vacation is for having fun, resting and traveling with family. But today, we have a very special vacation, a journey in the army, having to wake up early, fold blankets according to regulations and train physically, follow discipline and be more responsible towards everyone around us.”

The following days of the “Military Semester” are a series of interesting and useful activities such as: Training in team command, shooting techniques, tactical teams, fire prevention and fighting skills; field trips; cultural exchanges...

Cultivate patriotism

According to the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hue City Youth Union, Hoang Thi Thuy Linh, with the aim of using the military training environment as a "catalyst", taking being away from home and lacking the arms of parents as a "motivation" and using collective strength to influence each individual to create discipline for the children, the City Youth Union coordinated with the Hue City Military Command to organize the program "Semester in the Army" for union members and young people throughout the city.

With the theme “I am Uncle Ho’s Soldier”, this year’s program focuses on the following contents: Basic training and improving military discipline; educating on traditions, patriotism and the spirit of readiness to fight for the country; building the image of Uncle Ho’s Soldiers and sense of discipline; equipping life skills, social skills; participating in cultural and artistic activities, sports, folk dance practice, etc.

The children are also supported by the coordinators - these are the children's close friends. After each training day, the seniors will guide the "little soldiers" to summarize what they have learned in each person's "Journey Diary". During the activities, the seniors also participate in psychological counseling for each child, equipping each individual with necessary life skills.

Permanent Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union Hoang Thi Thuy Linh said: Through the program, the City Youth Union and the Hue City Military Command hope to contribute to educating patriotism, arousing national pride in children; thereby, raising the awareness of the young generation towards society, promoting the responsibility of "Protecting the Fatherland early, from afar; defending the country when it is not yet in danger" in the spirit of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress. At the same time, creating a useful and practical learning environment and equipping knowledge and skills; orienting children to a healthy, simple, cultured lifestyle, being responsible for themselves, their families and society.
