Announced in April 2022, Apple’s program provides customers with genuine parts, instructions, and tools to repair their devices themselves. The company says the program is designed for anyone with experience repairing electronics. However, the iPhone maker recommends that “the vast majority” of customers visit an Apple Store or authorized dealer.
Apple also announced that customers can now complete the System Configuration process after repair by activating Diagnostics Mode and following the on-screen instructions. Users no longer need to contact the support team for this step. Previously, the team would confirm that the components were genuine and working properly.
According to Apple, running System Configuration after a repair authenticates Apple components, updates firmware, and calibrates components to ensure maximum performance and quality. Additionally, for repairs involving biometrics such as Touch ID and Face ID, System Configuration links biometric sensors to the Secure Enclave on the logic board to ensure device security and user privacy.
Finally, the “bitten apple” said it will expand the self-repair program for Macs using the M1 chip in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the UK. At the same time, it will provide parts for the TrueDepth camera and top speaker of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.
