With a rich cultural and historical tradition, Hai Phong is gradually transforming itself, turning culture into a resource for sustainable development. Cultural industry not only opens up new directions for tourism and services, but also becomes a driving force for urban growth.

Solid foundation

Hai Phong is not only known as a dynamic port city, but also a place where cultural values from many centuries crystallize. The intersection between ancient culture and modern life creates rich materials and potential for the development of the cultural industry.

Not only heritage, Hai Phong also possesses a system of cultural institutions and urban infrastructure favorable for the formation of creative centers: City Theater, Cultural, Exhibition and Cinema Center, walking streets, commercial - entertainment complexes in new urban areas... All create an important foundation for the city to expand cultural industries such as: film production, music, design, fashion, performing arts, digital media, advertising, video games, cultural tourism and night economy .

Comrade Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said: Based on the potential and advantages of natural conditions, history, culture, and natural landscapes, many localities have been focusing on researching and developing unique cultural industrial sectors and products, suitable to the needs of socio-economic development. The city has gradually formed creative cultural industrial products with the goal of making cultural industry a key economic sector, contributing positively to the economic and social growth of the city.

Mentioning the cultural industry means talking about the combination of creativity, technology and economy. Hai Phong has gradually brought cultural and artistic activities into the urban space. Street art programs, music festivals in the square, outdoor events on weekends on the walking street add color to the city's atmosphere. Art activities such as traditional art performances at the Hang Kenh communal house relic; programs in the project to restore and organize cultural activities, art performances at the Trumpet House in Nguyen Du flower garden... In particular, the light-up theater program - bringing stage shows, reformed opera, music and dance into the television time slot and online broadcasting, helps increase the coverage of art...

Mr. Nguyen Minh Dung, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: “Hai Phong is becoming more and more vibrant with many cultural activities and large art programs. This not only affirms the city's ability to organize large cultural activities, but also creates a highlight for Hai Phong on the cultural map of the North. If promoted well, Hai Phong will not only be a resort and tourist destination but also become a cultural rendezvous.”

Growth drivers

According to the assessment of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the implementation of the plan to develop cultural industries in the city is not really sustainable, not meeting the development needs as well as the expectations of the people. Cultural industries and cultural markets have not developed strongly, and are still small and scattered in scale.

Cultural products for tourism and services are not rich and diverse, the effectiveness of promoting cultural heritage is not high. The quality of artistic activities is still limited. Regarding cultural tourism, the city is interested in creating conditions and focusing on investing in the work of preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage in the city. However, the exploitation and promotion of the value of heritage is not thorough, the introduction and promotion of the value of relics through tourist routes is still limited...

In order for the cultural industry to truly become a driving force for growth, Hai Phong needs to develop and promulgate mechanisms and policies to encourage comprehensive development, focusing on preserving and promoting the value of heritage and traditional cultural identity. At the same time, the work of restoration, embellishment and planning of relics must continue to be strengthened to improve the landscape space of the relics; and maintain traditional festivals at the relics.

Along with that, pay attention to preserving and promoting the value of traditional art forms. These are important foundations for building tourism products. In addition, continue to maintain and develop large-scale art programs, as well as strengthen propaganda and promote the value of world heritages in the city to the region and the world to attract research activities, sightseeing and tourism, contributing to the socio-economic development of the city.

From the cultural tradition to the modern lifestyle of the Port City, Hai Phong has all the conditions to strongly develop cultural industries. With the participation of the government, businesses, artists, communities and close regional connections, culture is gradually becoming an endogenous resource, contributing to improving the quality of life and creating momentum for economic growth.

Hai Phong currently owns 3,981 relics including many types such as communal houses, temples, pagodas, shrines, mausoleums, stone bridges... Of which, the city has 2 inter-provincial world heritages; 9 relics ranked as special national relics, 257 relics ranked at national level; 722 relics ranked at city level; 33 national treasures, 2 intangible cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO as world heritages; 24 national intangible cultural heritages; 2 People's Artisans and 46 Meritorious Artisans; 1,289 festivals...
