I met Mr. Tran Cao Quy, currently the Director of Construction Company 94A, in Quarter 3, Cam Lo Town, Cam Lo District. Luckily born at a time when the country had just been cleared of enemies, more than anyone else, he always cherishes every moment of living in peace .
Mr. Quy said: “My hometown is An Thai village, Cam Tuyen commune. Peace has been restored, although there are no more bombs and bullets exploding, our people still have to face many difficulties when houses, fields, gardens, and villages are destroyed. The only source of income mainly depends on farming. Every day, after school, my brothers and I go weeding and planting rice for hire to earn extra income and support our parents.
At that time, the roads were all red dirt. On sunny days, the dust was so thick that it dyed our clothes and hair red. On rainy days, it was muddy. But we still tried to go to school to complete our studies, still holding on to the will to become successful and enrich our homeland and country.
As a generation that grew up alongside the country's transformation, witnessing the first bricks that built a new life, in the heart of that director there is always pride and a desire to contribute to the cause of building the Fatherland.
After graduating from the construction industry, he chose to return to his hometown to start a business after many years of wandering and accumulating experience. 94A Construction Company Limited was established in 2009 and is currently in charge of civil and industrial works, transportation, bridges, roads, and irrigation works in and outside the province. Mr. Quy's company creates regular jobs for about 60 local workers with an income of 8-15 million/month/person.
Reflecting on the past, Mr. Quy said: “Fifty years have passed with so many changes, from a poor countryside where people only ate sweet potatoes and cassava for every meal, to now, our hometown has become a new rural standard locality, the people's lives are constantly improving. I am proud that I can contribute even a small part, together with the generation of 1975 comrades to develop, bringing my hometown Cam Lo far and wide”.
Lieutenant Colonel Ho Viet Hung always reminds the next generation to strive to study to build their homeland - Photo: TP
Lieutenant Colonel Ho Viet Hung, Head of the Engineering Department, General Staff Department, Quang Tri Provincial Military Command, was born and raised in the land rich in revolutionary tradition of Vinh Chap, Vinh Linh District. His solid family foundation with his grandfather being a heroic martyr who sacrificed his life in the resistance war against the French, his father being a loyal military officer and his mother being a devoted teacher, instilled in him a spirit of patriotism and a will to contribute.
Fortunately born at the time when the country was completely liberated, Lieutenant Colonel Hung always kept in mind the teachings of his family, constantly striving to study and practice with a deep belief that in the future he will use his knowledge and strength to serve his homeland.
“Life was very difficult at that time, because the country had just been unified and was starting to rebuild everything. Many of my friends had to stop studying due to family circumstances, but those who were a little better off tried to study. Perhaps because I grew up in a difficult time for the country, that was the motivation that urged me to try hard to study, not to give up, to change my life for the better in the future,” Lieutenant Colonel Hung shared.
The Engineering Department under the General Staff Department, Provincial Military Command is responsible for taking the lead in building combat works, service works, and ensuring safety for high-ranking Party delegations, international guests, leaders of the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee when war breaks out.
At the same time, he carried out dangerous tasks such as bomb and mine clearance to ensure peace for the people. During more than 25 years of working here, Lieutenant Colonel Hung and his teammates have always strived to excellently complete all assigned tasks.
In particular, during his 8 years as head of the department, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Hung, the Engineering Department, Provincial Military Command received more than 3,000 reports of bombs and ammunition of all kinds; safely handled 4,500 explosives, including more than 50 heavy bombs, 3 magnetic bombs, 4 timed bombs...
Over the years, although he has continuously received recognition and appreciation from leaders at all levels for his individual and collective work, to Lieutenant Colonel Hung, these cannot be compared to the sacrifices and bloodshed of previous generations.
Proudly telling us about his youngest son who dreams of following in his father’s footsteps and working in the army, Lieutenant Colonel Hung added: “I often remind my children and grandchildren that the price of peace today is really expensive. Therefore, when you still have the opportunity, always study and remember history. Understanding history will motivate people to continue striving to build a better future for their homeland.”
Ms. Thanh is proud to live in peace - Photo: TP
Entering her fifties, the memories of the difficult years after the country's reunification are still fresh in the mind of Ms. Ho Thi Hai Thanh, Principal of Cam Lo Town Primary School. For her, the hardships and difficulties that her family and the people here experienced are hard to describe in words. That was a time when there was no electricity, they had to use kerosene lamps, and they ate rice mixed with cassava and sweet potatoes...
“I will never forget the image of my father and uncles digging through the remaining bomb shells in the blazing sun and the scorching Lao winds; the image of my mother and my siblings cutting thatch in the dry, rocky hills, cutting straw to roof and build mud houses; the simple meals that were just enough to satisfy our hunger.
50 years have passed, what we have today is something that people at that time never dared to dream of. Witnessing my hometown change every day, when electricity, roads, schools, and stations developed rapidly, I am even more moved and proud of the sacrifices of many previous generations; of the dedication of later generations, including us, to build our hometown to become more and more prosperous and strong", Ms. Thanh shared.
Always keeping in mind that she needed to do something to be worthy of the sacrifices and losses of the previous generation, Ms. Thanh has constantly strived and made efforts in all activities.
In recent years, in addition to doing a good job in her professional work, Ms. Thanh has also promoted theeducation of ethics and revolutionary ideals in her teachers and students through practical activities such as: traditional activities "I love Vietnam", "Singing the national anthem at the red address", "Marching in the footsteps of heroes", "Returning to the source, celebrating the reunification of the country"... organizing collective and extracurricular activities on the occasion of April 30; taking care of the martyrs' cemetery, the memorial house of heroic martyrs; visiting the Memorial House of General Secretary Le Duan, Quang Tri Ancient Citadel; organizing visits to the source, red addresses...
Thereby, contributing to deepening the love for the homeland and country for students. “Born in peacetime, I have the opportunity to study, to contribute to the cause of education, to see the future buds of the country grow up every day in a peaceful and prosperous environment. Seeing the bright smiles of the students, I cherish this peaceful life even more. That is a priceless gift that history has given that I and all of us today have the responsibility to preserve and promote.
I am confident that the pride of being born in peacetime is not only my own feeling but also the motivation for each of us to live more meaningfully and contribute more to the prosperity of the country," said Ms. Thanh.
It is known that in the coming time, along with the competition to teach well and study well, Cam Lo Town Primary School will maintain and promote experiential activities and historical learning so that generations of students can appreciate the value of peace.
