On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), General Secretary To Lam wrote a special article: " Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese people are one " summarizing valuable historical lessons and orienting the country's development in the new period.

One of the profound messages emphasized by the General Secretary is the spirit of national reconciliation, putting the past behind and looking towards the future, for the common goal of building a prosperous and powerful Vietnam.

Lessons of harmony from the past

In the article, General Secretary To Lam shared his deep emotions when witnessing meetings between Vietnamese veterans and American veterans - who used to be on opposite sides of the battle line: " I have witnessed many touching meetings between Vietnamese veterans and American veterans - who used to stand on opposite sides of the battle line, used to hold guns and confront each other, now can shake hands, talk, and share with each other with sincere understanding and no longer feel inferior ."

From those moving images, the General Secretary highlighted a simple yet profound and poignant truth: If those who once directly confronted each other with guns and bullets can now shake hands and reconcile, then the Vietnamese people - sharing the same bloodline of Lac Hong - have no reason to continue to divide and resent each other.

The General Secretary emphasized: “ Today, Vietnam and the United States - from former enemies - have become comprehensive strategic partners, cooperating for peace , for the interests of the people of the two countries, for security and stability in the region. So there is no reason for the Vietnamese people - sharing the same bloodline, the same mother Au Co, always yearning for a unified, prosperous country - to continue to carry hatred, division and separation in their hearts .

That profound and humane message from the leader of our Party not only reminds us of historical lessons, but also illuminates the way for the present and the future: National reconciliation is the inevitable path to national development. It is not only a reflection of the past but also a call for the future.

This message is of special significance in the context of the country moving towards the goal of sustainable development. The General Secretary called on all classes of people, especially the young generation, to unite and join hands in building the country in the spirit of tolerance and responsibility.

We cannot rewrite history, but we can replan the future. The past is to be remembered, to be grateful for and to learn lessons from. The future is to be built, created and developed together ,” the General Secretary emphasized.

Half a century of solidarity , of the journey of building the Fatherland

The sincere emotions, vivid examples and convincing arguments in General Secretary To Lam's article have strongly inspired compatriots both at home and abroad about a bright future.

It is a Vietnam united in the heart of the nation, prosperous, powerful in development and sustainable in peace. Here, national harmony not only has profound humanistic meaning but is also the foundation for the future, also to affirm Vietnam's position.

Fifty years after the country was reunited, Vietnam has continued to grow strongly. The economy has grown continuously, people's lives have improved, and the country's position has been constantly enhanced in the international arena. These achievements stem from the strength of national unity - from the spirit of "putting the past behind, looking to the future", working together to build the country.

Looking back on that journey, we see even more the great value of national reconciliation. It is not only a way to heal the wounds left by war, but also a foundation for Vietnam to deeply integrate, becoming a reliable partner and an active member of the international community.

Strong bond: Vietnamese people at home and abroad share one heart

The spirit of national harmony and solidarity is also being strongly demonstrated through the close bond between Vietnamese people at home and our compatriots abroad.

Currently, more than 5.3 million Vietnamese people are living in more than 130 countries and territories. Wherever they are, the Vietnamese community always turns to the Fatherland with concrete and meaningful actions. In 2024, the amount of remittances sent to Vietnam will reach over 18 billion USD, becoming an important resource to promote economic development.

Not only contributing economically, overseas Vietnamese also preserve national cultural identity, participate in promoting the country's image and spreading Vietnamese values, fight to protect national sovereignty, and actively mobilize international support for Vietnam.

Community activities on major holidays, fundraising campaigns to support compatriots in the country when natural disasters or epidemics occur... All demonstrate a spirit of blood bond, an unfading pride in the nation's origins.

The consistent policy of great national solidarity of the Party and State, with many practical policies such as Resolution 36-NQ/TW, has created conditions for overseas Vietnamese to connect more closely with their homeland and join hands in the cause of national construction.

And at this year's parade in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the great festival of the country - a typical image of solidarity and national strength, for the first time, in the parade there will be a parade of a representative overseas Vietnamese delegation. Along with that, it is expected that more than 100 overseas Vietnamese delegates from 25 countries and territories will participate in this important event of the country in 2025.

Vietnam: One nation, one future

General Secretary To Lam's message is not only a reminder of the value of peace, but also a call for all people to look towards a common future. 50 years after reunification, Vietnam is facing a great opportunity to rise strongly, but that can only be achieved when all people are united, put aside divisions to work together to build a prosperous and happy country.

As the General Secretary said in the article: “ In the past, no true Vietnamese wanted their country to be divided. Today, certainly no true Vietnamese does not want their country to become increasingly powerful, prosperous, and on par with the world powers .” That is not only a message from the past, but also a compass for the journey ahead.

Firm belief in the future

General Secretary To Lam's profound and humane message touched the hearts of millions of Vietnamese people: National reconciliation is not only about healing the past, but also a positive action for the future - the future of a prosperous, powerful and everlasting Vietnam.

In the future of the country, there is always the future of every Vietnamese person, no matter where they are. That is an undeniable common denominator.

The 50th anniversary of national reunification, in the context of many changes in the world, further urges and unites each Vietnamese person to cherish peace, strengthen solidarity, spread patriotism, overcome separation, all prejudices, all hatred.

That is the path for Vietnam to continue to move forward, to realize its aspiration to become a developed country, for the happiness of the people, for peace, cooperation and progress around the world.

Is that also a continuation of the lesson of peace and harmony as the most important thing for development that the world cultural celebrity Nguyen Trai summarized in the immortal Proclamation of Victory over the Wu and the reflection of the famous scholar Truong Han Sieu in the poem "Phu song Bach Dang" ?

That the source of eternal peace is " no matter how dangerous the land is, it is important to have high virtue ."

President Ho Chi Minh once said: “Five fingers also have short fingers, long fingers. But short and long are all combined in the hand. Among millions of people, there are people like this, people like that, but these and those are all descendants of our ancestors. Therefore, we must be tolerant and magnanimous, we must realize that, as children of Lac and Hong, everyone has some patriotism.” This year’s April 30 anniversary will be a great milestone in the spirit of “Unity, unity, great unity”.
