APEC 2025 Summit Week: President Luong Cuong meets with leaders of several APEC members

According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on the afternoon of October 31, on the occasion of attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in the Republic of Korea, President Luong Cuong had a brief meeting with the Prime Ministers of Japan and New Zealand; Heads of delegations from Papua New Guinea and Peru; and Head of delegation from Hong Kong (China).

At the meetings, the leaders highly appreciated Vietnam's growing role and position in the international arena; expressed their impression of Vietnam's strong development in all aspects, especially socio -economic development and reforms and innovations in recent times.

The partners all agreed to strengthen substantive and effective bilateral relations with Vietnam, prioritizing areas of each side's advantages and needs such as economics, trade, science and technology, digital transformation, green transformation, and cooperation to respond to common issues such as climate change, disaster prevention, food security, and cyber security.

Emphasizing the need to strengthen coordination at important multilateral mechanisms and forums, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and APEC, the leaders said that parties need to seek balanced and sustainable solutions to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation, jointly respond to common challenges and contribute to a peaceful , stable, cooperative and developing environment in the region and the world.

Heads of APEC economic delegations congratulated Vietnam on being trusted to host APEC for the third time in 2027, affirming that they will actively support and closely coordinate with Vietnam to successfully organize APEC 2027.

At the meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae, President Luong Cuong sent congratulations from Vietnam's top leaders to Ms. Takaichi Sanae on being elected as Prime Minister of Japan; believing that with her rich experience, Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae will lead Japan to many new achievements.

Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae expressed his gratitude for the good wishes of the President and senior leaders of Vietnam, affirmed that Japan continues to attach importance to and wishes to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam in an increasingly effective and in-depth manner; congratulated Vietnam on its recent achievements in development, reform and innovation, and promised to arrange a visit to Vietnam in the near future.

During the meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the two leaders expressed their delight at witnessing the increasingly close, strong and substantive development of the Vietnam-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The President highly appreciated Malaysia's efforts in its role as ASEAN Chair 2025, including the successful series of 47th ASEAN Summit events, thereby promoting the building of the ASEAN Community on all three pillars of politics - security, economy - trade and culture - society as well as promoting ASEAN's central role in the region.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim thanked and shared the President's opinions, affirming that Malaysia considers Vietnam one of its top important partners and continues to give high priority to developing relations with Vietnam.

In a conversation with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, President Luong Cuong expressed his delight at witnessing the increasingly positive development of the bilateral relationship in all fields, especially the upgrading of the relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership during the recent visit of the New Zealand Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister of New Zealand congratulated Vietnam on its impressive economic growth, placing it among the countries with the highest economic growth in the world in 2025; and expressed his wish to closely coordinate with Vietnam in 2026 when Vietnam chairs the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) Ministerial Council to promote links between CPTPP and its partners.

At a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Papua New Guinea delegation, John Rosso, President Luong Cuong affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen the friendly and cooperative relationship with Papua New Guinea and is ready to act as a bridge between ASEAN and the South Pacific island nations and the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF).

For his part, the Deputy Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea expressed his wish to further strengthen cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the fields of trade and investment, and through Vietnam to promote cooperation with ASEAN.

In an exchange with the head of the Peruvian delegation, Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Teresa Stella Mera Gomez, President Luong Cuong affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Peru.

The head of the Peruvian delegation expressed his delight at the good development of the relationship between the two countries, especially after the President's visit to Peru in 2024. Highly appreciating the Bitel investment project of the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel), Minister Teresa hoped that Vietnamese enterprises would increase investment in Peru and pledged to continue to facilitate Bitel's increasingly effective operations in Peru.
At the meeting with Head of the Hong Kong (China) Delegation Li Ka-siao, both sides appreciated the positive progress in the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Hong Kong in recent times.

President Luong Cuong suggested that the two sides effectively implement the commitments and agreements reached during the official visit of Mr. Ly Gia Sieu to Vietnam (July 2024) and asked his friend to send a delegation to Vietnam to discuss cooperation in developing a financial center.

Head of the delegation Ly Gia Sieu shared the President's opinions, believing that the bilateral relationship will continue to develop more substantially in the coming time, especially in economic, trade, investment, financial and tourism cooperation; expressed his readiness to welcome the Vietnamese delegation to study and exchange experiences as well as send a delegation to Vietnam to support preparations for the construction of financial centers.

That same evening, the President of South Korea and his wife held a solemn reception to welcome APEC leaders attending the Conference.
