VnExpressVnExpress28/01/2024

The 20-meter-high, 50-meter-long dragon statue wrapped around the floating pavilion at Thuy Tien Lake, Hue City, will be demolished to renovate this park after many years of abandonment.

On January 28, a representative of Dai Nguyen Nam Trading and Service Company Limited, the company that won the auction for assets at Thuy Tien Lake Amusement Park (Thuy Bang Commune, Hue City), said that after the Year of the Dragon, the statue will be dismantled and demolished. "The dragon statue at the park is a masterpiece that probably has no other in our country. It is a pity to demolish it, but it must be done to hand over the land to the government," this person said.

Thuy Tien Lake Amusement Park was built by Hue Ancient Capital Tourism Company in 2001 with a total cost of 70 billion VND, including many items such as: Aquarium, water music stage, water games, walking path around the lake. In which, the aquarium with the dragon architecture winding around the water pavilion in the middle of the lake is a prominent project. The Huffington Post (USA) once had an article with a ghostly image of this place. Since then, Thuy Tien Lake Park has become famous as a mysterious and creepy tourist destination.

In 2008, Haco Hue Company took over to upgrade and invest in the park project, but by 2017 it was no longer able to complete it. Thua Thien Hue Province reclaimed the project land and handed it over to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment for management. The government decided to renovate the Thuy Tien Lake amusement park into a community park with a budget of 20 billion VND.

Mr. Le Nhu Chinh, Director of Hue Green Park Center, said that according to the plan, a 2 km long, 4.5-6 m wide walking path around Thuy Tien Lake will be built, paved with granite on a concrete foundation. Lighting and drainage systems have been invested. However, because the investor's assets are still on the land, the unit has not received the site yet, so the renovation has not been implemented.
