Dean James had a great day. |
Round 12 of the Dutch Eredivisie saw a big shock as Feyenoord lost the lead after a 1-2 away defeat to Go Ahead Eagles. Indonesian national team left-back Dean James was the best player of the match, scoring a beautiful goal and locking down the opposition attack.
In the 86th minute, Dean James dribbled from midfield, eliminated the Feyenoord defense before shooting the ball into the net of goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther, raising the score to 2-0, almost ending Feyenoord's hopes. Before that, the home team had led 1-0 in the 13th minute.
Although Tsuyoshi Watanabe pulled one back after just three minutes with a late goal, Feyenoord's late surge of attacks could not penetrate the Go Ahead Eagles defence led by Dean James, who played well throughout the match.
This defeat was a big shock, because Feyenoord has been playing extremely well since the beginning of the season and is leading the rankings. Coach Robin van Persie and his team suffered their second defeat in the Eredivisie this season, causing them to cede the top spot to PSV Eindhoven - the team that just crushed AZ Alkmaar 5-1 in the same round.
As for Dean James, the player of Go Ahead Eagles had a memorable performance, attracting the attention of many European scouts. The left-back born in 2000 was naturalized by the Indonesian national team in March and debuted in the recent World Cup qualifiers. He has Indonesian-Dutch blood as his mother is originally from Surabaya.
