Propaganda to improve capacity to respond to natural disasters

On May 27, at Hoa Hiep Nam Border Guard Station (Dong Hoa Town), the National Committee for Incident, Disaster Response and Search and Rescue in coordination with the Provincial Border Guard Command organized a conference to disseminate the Law on Civil Defense and legal documents related to disaster response such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, chemical and radioactive incidents, oil spills and search and rescue at sea to border guards and fishermen.

Fishermen of Dong Hoa town received flags and life buoys donated by units.

At the conference, the reporters disseminated information on IUU fishing prevention, the Law on Civil Defense, the Law on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, and legal regulations on management and response to environmental incidents; contents on warning, evacuation and damage mitigation caused by earthquakes, tsunamis, flash floods, landslides and rising sea levels.

At the propaganda session, representatives of the units presented 500 leaflets with instructions on natural disaster response, storm shelter maps, marine weather reports, along with many first aid kits, wound dressing methods on ships, and life buoys to offshore fishing boat crews.
