“We were getting so much data hogged that it was degrading service for regular users!” Musk said in a tweet.
He added that hundreds or more organizations are “extremely aggressively” collecting Twitter data, affecting the user experience.
Musk has previously expressed displeasure with artificial intelligence companies like OpenAI, owner of ChatGPT, using Twitter data to train their large language models.
“We will definitely take legal action against those who stole our data and look forward to seeing them in court, which is two to three years from now,” he said.
In a letter to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Musk's lawyer Alex Spiro asked the tech giant to conduct an audit of Twitter's use of content in May, accusing the Windows developer of violating an agreement over the social media company's use of its data.
Twitter has initiated a series of measures to attract advertisers who have left the Musk-owned platform and boost subscription revenue by placing verification ticks as part of its Twitter Blue program.
Earlier this month, Twitter announced plans to focus on video , creators, and commerce partnerships to revive its business alongside digital advertising.
Twitter has also started charging users to access its application programming interface (API), which is used by researchers and third-party apps.
