On the afternoon of May 13, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced official data on enrollment quotas and the number of applications to specialized high schools in the city for the 2025-2026 school year.
The competition ratio is calculated by dividing the number of first-choice applications by the enrollment quota for each specialized subject at each school. The higher the ratio, the greater the level of competition.
According to Dan Tri reporter's analysis, more than 16,000 candidates registered for the 10th grade specialized exam. With a quota of 2,730 for all 4 schools, the average competition ratio is nearly 1/6. Of which, the highest competition ratio is Nguyen Hue Specialized High School with 1/7.96; followed by Chu Van An Specialized High School with 1/7.65.
If calculated by subject, the Chinese major of Chu Van An High School for the Gifted is the "hottest". In the first year of enrollment, this class accepted 35 students but had 856 applications for the first choice, so the competition ratio is more than 1/24.46. Thus, there will be nearly 25 candidates competing to win a spot in the Chinese major class of this school.

Not far behind, the Russian language class at Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted has a competition ratio of 1/21.6. These are two classes with a competition level exceeding 1/20. This is a level that no other specialized class last year reached.
Next, the admission rate for English majors at Chu Van An High School for the Gifted and Nguyen He High School for the Gifted is 1/19.86 and 1/18.96 respectively.
Chu Van An High School for the Gifted is showing its "hotness" when 8/10 subjects have increased in percentage. Only math and French have slightly decreased.
At Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, the competition rate for most natural science subjects (math, physics, chemistry, biology, IT) tends to decrease compared to 2024. Meanwhile, the Russian major continues to have a very high competition rate and has increased slightly compared to last year. The Chinese and Literature majors also recorded an increase in competition.
English major maintains a stable "hot" level when 696 candidates register to find places in 2 classes with 70 quotas.
Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted has a competition rate for many subjects that tends to decrease compared to 2024, especially math, physics, chemistry, and geography.

The competition rate in most subjects at Son Tay High School for the Gifted has decreased compared to 2024, especially in physics, history, geography, and English. Information technology has a notable increase in competition rate.
With this year’s competition rate, students need to be well prepared in terms of knowledge and mentality. Understanding the competition rate in each subject and school will help students have a more realistic view of their chances of being admitted.
