At the beginning of the graduation ceremony today (May 23), for excellent students of the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, the entire hall observed a minute of silence for student Do Thi Ngoc Hue.

Ms. Do Thi Phuong went on stage to receive the diploma and white bouquet of flowers on behalf of her sister.

Do Ngoc Hue, student of class D20CQAT01-B, Faculty of Information Security, Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, graduated with honors with an average score of 3.33/4.0.

But I can't receive my diploma today because last Lunar New Year, Hue passed away in a traffic accident.

"During the nearly 2-hour journey from Hai Duong to Hanoi , I was still able to calm myself down. As soon as I got off the bus and entered the Academy gate, I saw students wearing their bachelor's gowns and burst into tears," Ms. Phuong said emotionally.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Ms. Phuong said that on the evening of the 3rd day of Tet, Hue asked her family for permission to attend a class reunion. Unexpectedly, that was also the last day of her life when she had a traffic accident and passed away. Hue passed away on her birthday.

Hue is the youngest of two sisters. According to Phuong, she was always an excellent student during high school. Hue also participated in local youth union activities during the summer and holidays.

"Since Tet, my sister has finished her courses and knows she graduated with honors. She always spends frugally because she is afraid of her parents spending money.

On Tet holiday, she shared with me that she would try to save money so that this year’s graduation ceremony could invite her parents and siblings to Hanoi for an intimate meal with the scholarship money she had saved. The meal did not happen…!

A few days before the graduation ceremony, the school invited my family to Hanoi to receive their diplomas. I didn't dare let my parents go because I was afraid they would be too emotional," Ms. Phuong said, choking up.

Her family wanted her to become a teacher, but Hue chose to study at the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology because she loved Information Technology. According to her family, Hue plans to work near home after receiving her diploma.

Sharing with reporters, Nguyen Hoai Ngoc, a student majoring in Information Security, said that he is in the same class as Hue and the two have been close friends for the past 4 years.

When I heard the news of your death, I was shocked. Hue was one of the top students in the class. She was very simple and sociable in class.

At today's graduation ceremony, I was both happy and sad: "We had discussed the graduation ceremony beforehand, and had hired a photographer. Hue also confided that she had saved some money to invite her family to a meal in Hanoi for the graduation ceremony. But that plan has completely ended," Ngoc shared.

On May 23, the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology held the first graduation ceremony of 2025 and awarded degrees to 3 PhDs, 45 Masters and nearly 1,000 engineers in the Engineering majors of the D2020 course.

According to Prof. Dr. Tu Minh Phuong, Chairman of the Council of the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, this is a special course. From the time of enrollment until nearly half of the university study time, students are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is also the first class of students that the Academy innovates in training in graduation modules, 100% of students carry out and defend their projects instead of studying alternative graduation modules as before. With many challenges like that, the rate of excellent and good graduates is over 20%, the rate of good students is over 70%.

In 2025, the Academy was selected by the Prime Minister as one of the five national key schools in Engineering and Technology. Also this year, the Academy plans to open two more high-quality majors: Information Security and Multimedia Communications, bringing the total number of high-quality majors to five.
