Vietnam U20 women's team falls into an average group in the Asian qualifiers

(NLDO) - As the number one seed, the Vietnam U20 women's team entered Group B and will face opponents considered to be of equal strength in the 2026 Asian U20 Women's Qualifiers.

The journey to conquer the continental dream of young Vietnamese women's football talents has officially begun with the draw for the AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup 2026 qualifying round, taking place on the afternoon of April 28 at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This year's qualifying round brings together 33 teams, competing from August 2 to 10 to compete for 11 tickets to the final round held in Thailand in 2026. The teams are divided into eight groups, including seven groups of four teams and one group of five teams, competing in a round-robin format at venues in Bhutan, China, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

With the lucky draw, the Vietnam U20 women's team, as the host of Group B, will compete with opponents U20 Kyrgyzstan, U20 Hong Kong (China) and U20 Singapore.

Vietnam U20 women's team has participated in the continental tournament 6 times, with the best achievement being reaching the quarter-finals in 2004. With the home field advantage taking place in Hanoi , Vietnam U20 women's team is determined to go further and take advantage of the opportunity to qualify for the final round.

This year’s qualifiers also mark the notable return of North Korea, alongside former champions Japan, South Korea and China. Meanwhile, many teams such as Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lebanon, Mongolia, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, East Timor… are also determined to make their mark at the Finals for the first time.

According to the regulations, the 8 group winners and the 3 best second-placed teams will qualify for the final round, along with host Thailand, creating a competition of the 12 strongest teams in the continent from April 1 to 18, 2026.
