U23 Vietnam must urgently replace striker due to injury

Today (July 17), Coach Kim Sang Sik decided to urgently call up Le Van Thuan to Indonesia after striker Nguyen Thanh Nhan had to leave the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship early due to injury.

Thanh Nhan unfortunately suffered an injury during the training session of the U23 Vietnam team on the evening of July 16. It was raining heavily, so after an unbalanced landing, he was injured and had to leave the training session.

On the morning of July 17, Thanh Nhan was taken to the hospital by the medical team for an MRI scan. The results showed that Thanh Nhan had damaged the ligaments in her left ankle and could not recover in time to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

In order to timely supplement the force, Coach Kim Sang Sik decided to recall the versatile midfielder Le Van Thuan to replace Thanh Nhan. The Korean coach also expressed regret and encouraged Thanh Nhan to return home to have the best conditions for treatment and recovery.

Le Van Thuan, born in 2006, is one of the outstanding young players who grew up from the Thanh Hoa Club training center.

In the 2024-2025 season, Van Thuan was promoted to the first team to play in the V-League and left many impressions with 4 goals and 2 assists in 16 appearances. This helped him receive the title of "Best Young Player" of the V-League 2024-2025.

With an impressive performance, Le Van Thuan was called up by coach Kim Sang Sik to join U23 Vietnam in preparation for the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship in Ba Ria - Vung Tau . However, in the first round of finalizing the list, Van Thuan was eliminated.

Thanh Nhan's unfortunate injury is very unfortunate for this individual player, but it opens up an opportunity for Van Thuan to return and be ready to take on the task of replacing his senior to contribute to the U23 Vietnam team at the regional tournament.

According to plan, Van Thuan will be in Jakarta tomorrow (July 18) to prepare for the match against U23 Laos on July 19.

Unlucky striker

Despite his good skills, Thanh Nhan is unlucky. This is not the first time the young striker has missed important matches and tournaments due to injury.

Previously, Thanh Nhan had to miss the 2023 Asian Cup Finals, could not compete in the 32nd SEA Games bronze medal match in Cambodia and most recently could not attend the 2024 AFC U23 Championship Finals.
