On the Russian-Ukrainian battlefield, the superiority of the Russian army is becoming more and more obvious. The front line is advancing towards the control of Ukraine, the resistance of the Ukrainian army (AFU) is getting weaker and weaker. The Russian army (RFAF) is still eroding the vitality of AFU, and Ukraine's daily losses are unbearable. Ukraine itself is only a medium-sized country. Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, a large number of its people have fled abroad. Coupled with the huge attrition caused by more than three years of war, the AFU has been increasingly depleted in manpower; other resources are also limited, making their overall weaknesses increasingly obvious.
Currently, the fiercest front on the entire front line is Pokrovsk. RFAF has occupied more than half of the city and has formed a siege of the Ukrainian defense forces in the city. On October 25, RFAF captured the strategic town of Rodinske in the north of Pokrovsk, officially closing the "cauldron" with the two urban areas of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. To the west of the city, the RFAF had crossed the railway line and was aiming for the village of Grichino, creating a pincer and encirclement only about five kilometers apart. It was now unlikely that the AFU would be able to hold Pokrovsk and its fate was only a matter of time. The RFAF not only surrounded the entire city, but also isolated the two urban areas of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, breaking the unified defense line between the two urban areas, making the situation of the Ukrainian defenders in the city even worse. Ukrainian President Zelensky had previously ordered AFU Commander-in-Chief General Syrsky to hold Pokrovsk until at least the end of the year. However, the supply lines to the Ukrainian defense forces in the city were completely blocked by the RFAF, and the Russians continued to advance, using encirclement and division tactics, making the AFU defense extremely difficult. In the direction of the Dobropilya “salient”, in the northern part of Pokrovsk, the RFAF has stabilized the front line and now the AFU is no longer able to counterattack, and the villages of Nykanorivka and Novy Shakhove are basically firmly re-controlled by the RFAF. Meanwhile, the situation in the Pokrovsk metropolitan area is counting down.
On the Kupyansk front, the second hot spot on the Ukrainian battlefield, the situation is similar to Pokrovsk, with the RFAF Western Group of Forces occupying about 75% to 80% of the urban area. Ukrainian troops here are struggling to hold the remaining areas. The RFAF at Kupyansk has superior firepower, FPV UAVs, glide bombs and artillery fire, making it difficult for the Ukrainians to hold. The RFAF has now cut Highway 207 and the bridge over the Oskil River, making it difficult for the Ukrainians on the east bank to resupply, reinforce and retreat. To remedy this, the AFU attempted to build a military pontoon bridge, but it was destroyed by Russian airstrikes and blown to pieces. The RFAF commander clearly wanted to completely cut off the Ukrainian army's lifeline on the east bank of the Oskil River. Once Kupyansk was completely under RFAF control, the Ukrainian army east of the Oskil River would have only two outcomes: surrender or die in battle. The situation in Lyman and Seversk was also dangerous, as the RFAF gradually established a siege, and the Ukrainian defense line could no longer hold. The RFAF did not launch a full-scale attack on Lyman, but only used part of its forces to blockade the city, while advancing towards Slavyansk and Karamatorsk, indicating that the next phase of the objective would be deeper.
The fighting situation in the Zaporizhia region also escalated significantly. The Dnieper Group and the RFAF's Eastern Group of Forces coordinated their operations to form a north-south counteroffensive. The Dnieper Group captured Kamenskoye on the Dnieper River and advanced north, directly threatening the city of Zaporozhye. At the same time, the RFAF launched a large-scale offensive in the Orekhiv region and captured Mala Tokmachka in the southeast of Orekhiv, which was considered the gateway to Orekhiv. Now that this gateway was lost, Orekhiv was facing the threat of encirclement. In the Gulyai-Polye area, east of Orekhiv, the Russian infantry group attacked from the front, and the Vostok RFAF group attacked from the rear. Because here, the AFU had a strong frontal defense line and a dense fortification system. If they attacked from the front, the RFAF would suffer heavy losses, so they applied the tactic of surprise attacks from the rear. Guliai-Polye's rear defense line was weak and no positions were well established; so the sudden attack from the rear by the Russian army caught the Ukrainian army by surprise, and the situation worsened.
The simultaneous attacks by the RFAF on the front and rear have caused Ukraine's overall combat potential to continue to decline, the RFAF's combat effectiveness on the front has decreased, supplies have become difficult, and the strategic initiative entering this winter has completely fallen into Moscow's hands.
