Many fake videos about Hurricane Melissa are circulating.

A series of videos circulating on social media over the past week have led many to believe that Hurricane Melissa caused horrific scenes in Jamaica. Among them is a clip showing four sharks swimming in a hotel pool, or the heavily damaged Kingston airport.

However, all of these are products of artificial intelligence (AI), and do not happen in real life.

These videos are created using AI tools like Sora, OpenAI’s text-to-video platform. Some clips are spliced from old disasters, others are entirely AI-generated. They appear mixed with real videos from citizens and press agencies, creating information noise and making it difficult for viewers to distinguish between real and fake.

“Previously, users could spot fake videos by unusual movements, distorted text, or inaccurate details. But now those flaws are disappearing,” said Sofia Rubinson of NewsGuard .

She also noted that Hurricane Melissa was the first major natural disaster since Sora's launch that caused a spike in fake videos.

Jamaican Education Minister Dana Morris Dixon urged people not to believe viral videos circulating on WhatsApp and social media, but to follow information from official channels such as the Government or the National Hurricane Center.

Microsoft spends nearly $35 billion on AI and cloud infrastructure

Microsoft just announced its quarterly business results with impressive growth: Revenue increased 18% to 77.7 billion USD, far exceeding Wall Street expectations. Net profit increased 22% to 30.8 billion USD, equivalent to 4.13 USD/share.

Notably, Microsoft spent nearly $35 billion in the quarter on infrastructure investments, mainly to serve the needs of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing, including nearly half on computer chips and the rest on data center real estate.

The results come just as Microsoft hit a $4 trillion valuation for the second time this year, thanks to a new deal with ChatGPT developer OpenAI.

Under the deal, Microsoft will retain commercial rights to OpenAI's products until 2032 and own about 27% of OpenAI's new for-profit business.

Microsoft has invested $11.6 billion of its $13 billion commitment to OpenAI to date, but its shares fell about 1% in after-hours trading as investors reassessed the impact of the financial report, especially in light of the Azure service disruption.

Microsoft is now pushing its AI assistant Copilot into the workplace, recently adding an animated interface called Mico to increase interactivity. Investors expect AI to continue to be a growth driver, although concerns remain about the real profitability of AI products in the long term.

Google says people watched more than 35 billion hours of shopping content last year. To better support TV, YouTube will allow creators to insert QR codes into videos that viewers can scan with their phones to access product pages. These codes will appear at the right time in the video to increase shopping efficiency.

YouTube also increased the thumbnail size limit to 50MB (previously 2MB), making video avatars more eye-catching. According to Google, the number of channels earning over $100,000/year increased 45% in 2025 compared to 2024.
