After the Ukrainian Self-Defense Forces sank dozens of Russian ships, the Russians began using submarines to monitor the waters of the Black Sea. There are currently four submarines patrolling the Azov-Black Sea region.

This information was reported by Ukraine's Ukrainska Pravda website, quoting Mr. Dmytro Pletenchuk, Director of the Strategic Communications Center of the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, on the 24/7 national news bulletin on June 10.

“In the Black Sea, they (Russian forces) are currently performing tasks with submarines. They have established a routine according to which these submarines rotate in the morning. In the Azov-Black Sea region, they have four submarines, three of them are cruise missile carriers. Two submarines periodically go to sea,” Pletenchuk said.

According to the Ukrainian official, the Russian Federation forces have decided that the Sea of Azov is safer and are now trying to organize training for their ships there. He added that there are three large Russian landing ships in the Sea of Azov, as well as three additional small missile ships of the Buyan-M class. These ships “have moved from their base in Novorossiysk.”

Mr. Pletenchuk also claimed that to protect their ships in the Sea of Azov from Ukrainian drones, the Russians are building structures such as barges and fences behind them. According to him, the Sea of Azov is quite shallow, so there is only so much they can do: “Russian ships are mixed with civilian ships. They are trying to use this method to complicate our work.”

At the same time, the Ukrainian official could not confirm the information about the sinking of a large Russian landing ship in the Sea of Azov. Earlier, on June 10, Mr. Pletenchuk told LIGA.net that the information about the attack of the Russian Navy's Ropucha-class landing ship in the Sea of Azov on June 8 by the Ukrainian armed forces was incorrect.

“Unfortunately, for now, this is news from the future,” Pletenchuk said. There are currently three large amphibious assault ships and three small missile ships, including the Buyan-M project, in the Sea of Azov. “But the information about the damage is still not correct,” Pletenchuk added.

Ukraine has repeatedly attacked Russian ships since Moscow began its military campaign in the country. About 30% of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet had been destroyed as of December last year, the Kyiv Independent reported, citing the Ukrainian military .
